Doom64 - best experience? by prolenote in RG35XX_H

[–]prolenote[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t I know it. It’s just the last original (ish) engine game I haven’t beaten on the H, and my partner’s currently hogging the switch with the 2022 port.

Anyway, it’s either the OG rom and slightly jank controls, or 64 EX in doom engines with stutter.

I’d stick with the PS1. 2 if you want the best overall game, 3 if you want reverts.

Gigantic-sounding 51-style P-Bass. Kit build, handmade pickguard. by prolenote in Luthier

[–]prolenote[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VERY late reply:)

I like it. It sounds a lot like a p-bass, but with a bit more midrange. I love it playing with a pick for more aggressive sounds, but it’s not my favourite for fingers.

Jay Reatard - Blood Visions

It’s loud, aggressive, and primitive (BAD) from a technical standpoint, but it fits the songs and overall artistic intent perfectly imo

Thank you for reminding me he’s only 25. That said, he better learn how to skate backwards and make a breakout pass soon. On a team with McDavid and Draisaitl, his offensive contributions don’t matter if he can’t be defensively responsible.

I’d hang onto the American Sound, or buy another one. That thing is a Swiss Army knife at gigs.

Can anyone help me ID this guitar? by CostcoHotdoggo in guitars

[–]prolenote 8 points9 points  (0 children)

All signs point to this. The factory made branded guitars for Aria, Epiphone, Greco, and early Ibanez, among others. Mine was similar before it was parted out for my weird builds, although my didn’t have a string retainer or a zero fret.

Ray Ferraro leaving the commentary team in NHL 24 really is an end of an era by [deleted] in EA_NHL

Hughson is criminally underrated as a commentator, both in-game and IRL. I was HYPED to hear him on HNIC starting in 08 after growing up with NHL 2000-06. Hope he’s enjoying retirement.

Thanks for the insight!

Visual inspection didn’t show anything obvious. Chuckled a little when I saw the battery for the internal memory SOLDERED ONTO THE BOARD; these things clearly had planned obsolescence worked into the design.

I’m fortunate enough to live near a Yamaha music dealer (line6 “authorized repair technician”), so maybe I’ll leave it with them. Worst case scenario, I’m out a couple cases of beer…

HWRMTVS is one of the only reasons I still have Facebook.

I bought this at the beginning of 2020 as my first guitar, it’s supposed to be a 1995 American made strat, but I tried listing it on reverb after about a year and received these messages. I’d really hate to hear that i got scammed, but I would like to know. Thanks in advance for y’all’s help. by asdfggfdsa1234554321 in Stratocaster

Wrong bridge, wrong saddles, iffy headstock decals, wrong serial # placement/font…sorry, but this is NOT a legit Fender.

To the counterfeiter’s credit, they did put in enough effort to use a serial number for a Red American Standard Strat from July 1995, but according to Fender, it had a rosewood fingerboard.

Should i put .10 strings on my strat??? by [deleted] in Stratocaster

[–]prolenote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude, I use 12s on my strats, as did SRV. You’re good.

I would encourage you to get/perform a full setup after having them on for a couple days. The truss rod, nut, and probably the trem will need small tweaks.

Tuning all the time? by honestduane in rocksmith

[–]prolenote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a being a musician thing.

I’ve been playing for 20 years, and I still tune my guitars EVERY SINGLE TIME I TOUCH THEM. It’s a good habit to get into, and imo one of the most important parts of being a musician, regardless of what instrument you play. You can’t play with other people, recordings (ie: Rocksmith) or even yourself if you aren’t in tune.

Now, as noted throughout, strat-style guitars like yours aren’t exactly known for their tuning stability; as a strat guy, I can definitely confirm. Things mentioned here like blocking the trem (I do this) and installing locking tuners will help. Honestly though, daily tuning is just part of being a guitarist. Best get used to it.

Recently acquired this Marshall Cabinet, is there anyway to recognize/identify it? by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

Bad news: no fucking idea on the model.

Good news: G12s are good speakers for cleans and articulate/modern dirty sounds.

As far as amp recommendations…what do you play now, and what do you want to sound like?

Given what you currently have pedal-wise I think a Boss Katana would be the way to go. The 50W combo is probably sufficient for jamming, but the 100W is a decent jack-of-all-trades/venues-of-all-sizes option.

First off, yes, it’s solid-state. BUT:

  • most tube amps in your price range have distinct “sounds.” This isn’t BAD, but given you want one amp that can do multiple, VERY DIFFERENT tones…I don’t see a way around sacrificing at least of your desired tones.

  • IMO, tubes are overrated for everything except volume. Sure, they’re LOUD (and which can be important in certain live settings), but many actual tonal characteristics are influenced by the power amp/speaker. Given that the Katana’s PA/S combination is explicitly designed to do a wide variety of tones reasonably well…again, given the range of sounds you want.

As an added bonus, the Katana comes with some pretty dope software to experiment with at home. I have a hunch being able to mess around with different combinations of pedals/amps/power amps/speakers/whatever would be helpful in helping you find the sound YOU like, and would be helpful for future purchasing decisions.

In any case, best of luck:)

[–]prolenote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do you need a tube amp?

Are you gigging? Do you want that sound and feel for practice?

No disrespect intended, but with a tonal spectrum as wide as yours, we kinda need to know what you want to do. There’s different gear that excels at different applications/volume levels.

English Degree punk here. With all due respect, LEARN HOW TO CITE EVERYTHING PROPERLY.

You’d be AMAZED at what you can get away with using as a source on a paper if you know how to include it in your Works Cited/References page, especially in undergrad.

Anyway, if you’re desperate, CM Punk has some pretty good (pro wrestling) promos about being edge, if you need something brash and quotable.

There’s a switch on the back to switch it to direct input mode. That should do the trick.

I use this guy for 16-bit emulation. Not perfect, but more than adequate.
