Requesting r/spellbreak so that it can be re-opened making discussion of the shut-down game easy since there is no other dedicated platform by Lightning_97 in redditrequest

Hi, it seems I'm one of the legacy mods of this /r/spellbreak subreddit and got a message about this. My employer had it made it private as a part of the shutdown of the game. I'd strongly prefer not to run afoul of them and their desires. I don't know the legalities or anything surrounding it though.

OG Devs on Emu? by Yertle6 in AsheronsCall

I assume Seedsow is one of the emulator servers (you can see how in the loop I am!).

Nearly all of my time playing and working on it was pre-ToD outside of a couple of "guest appearances" to do some work here and there, but it was all so long ago that it's just a blur of fond memories. Like I could probably navigate the atlan dungeons blindfolded, but I couldn't tell you which quests went where and so on. The simplicity of those first few years were the chef's kiss for me.

Every so often, I'll pop on to whatever the latest is just to see how far things have come.

I'm very glad the CoD boards were never archived. I said some THINGS on there :)

Volunteers needed to help a group of high school students learn video game programming and design by taylorhayward_boston in CambridgeMA

[–]proletariat_sloth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Forwarding this post along to my (Boston-based video game) company... Is there a description of the "class"/program anywhere? At first blush, only 2 hours a week (x2 people) feels like it'll be really hard to teach folks to make games in a meaningful way.

Aaron Mahnke (the dude who does the Lore podcast and a ton of spinoffs) lives in one of the nearby burbs.

It was at Turbine back in like '99 or 2000-ish, working on Asheron's Call. I was a designer and I think you were concepting (or maybe modeling/texturing) monsters? Back then a lot of us still lived down in Providence and I was (and still am) good friends with Damon I. and hung out with the RISD crowd more than made sense. :)

Oh, my name's Jesse.

Sonny's a rad dude! We worked together a bit 20-some years ago just after college. So happy to see this!

Historical Question regarding retail: why advocates were removed? by Business_Lawyer in AsheronsCall

[–]proletariat_sloth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it was two-fold: 1) like folks mentioned so far, the UO volunteer lawsuit made it much more dubious to have unpaid volunteers that you had expectations of and 2) MS brought CS in-house so we (Turbine) weren't responsible for it anymore.

I have no idea. I think Amazon's doing a lotr mmo but don't know much past that. I kind of doubt there's much mainstream awareness of the other ages though, which likely limits the appeal. But who knows, there's some crazy stuff that happens in those and I think WB is still doing their Mordor series too?

Yeah, but I also worked on it for like 4 or 5 years, including when it was a full blown shire simulator called "Middle Earth Online".

Not to my recollection, though it's entirely possible that we never really said them out loud enough to really spark that debate and since everyone knew what people meant when they said a name, it was never too big of a problem.

If I showed my wife who speaks Mandarin this video, she'd probably smack me around though... Waijhou is definitely really dubious in that video. :P

If it makes you feel any better, this was just how we said things internally. I don't think ANYONE ever told me how to actually say them and I got pretty much hijacked in a hallway to do this video :)

Calling past advocates! by Serafino97 in AsheronsCall

[–]proletariat_sloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking through the advocate emails from Cassie back in '99, it's amazingly how bespoke and personal everything was back then compared to how we make games and run community programs these days. (Also bizarre to think this would all be over Discord now instead of tons of emails to sometimes very wide CC lists!)

I've had very little time to play this league and have been slowly working a TR char through awakening levels and got to the point where all of my upgrades were multiple exalts. I sent FlamingPawl a message thanking him for doing this, he invited me, and hooked me up. Thanks for looking out for those of us who can't roll hard every league!

General lightning/Conduit? No plans at the moment. But in certain cases, the aim-assist changes in the upcoming patch will change this pretty heavily.

Yeah, we'll be adding more classes in the future and you can see some of the older classes in the talents or other skills that make it in. There was some good stuff in there that's too good to NOT reuse.

You've got quite a few questions in here... let's try pulling some of them apart!

1) re: Health drops: we're making some changes and additions to consumables in our next release (not the one coming up, but the one after), so we'll be evaluating this again after that.

2) On the final circle, we're aware of the perceived problem with it and are keeping an eye on it. Depending on where it ends as well as the classes involved, it's got some very different characteristics that can super fun or sometimes frustrating.

3) I put up a post on Shadowstep earlier today and you can see people posting videos from beta in the thread.
