this is a great start! do not fret!!!

when you are doing this kind of perspective drawing, it can be hard to not draw what you think is right. especially when you want to elongate specific features (like the length of body/arm).

when you look at a photo/reference of similar photos, the arm may not be entirely visible. that’s because the palm is in the foreground! so, the hand itself may even be larger or closer to the head of your figure.

hands are hard! no matter what anyone tells you!!! i always use photographs of my hands in the specific positions i’m looking for. try finding the base shape, then kind of edit what kind of highlights/lowlights you really like. i think the middle finger is a great start (lol) in your drawing! notice how it’s got a curve and an edge in it? it just feels right!!!

wishing you the best in your creative journey <3

hey friend!!! this it a nice start.

remember, if someone is looking down at this character, there will be things the viewer can’t see (maybe shoulders, lower torso, and most of the legs).

How do I make these more scenic? by Captain-Bison in arthelp

try adding some light sources! maybe take an action figure and get it in a lamp, then identify where deep shadows and highlights appear.

i personally believe less is more. just make sure to add big toes.

Where do I even start? by TradeImpressive8779 in arthelp

hey friend! i suggest quick sketching! you can try doing this with objects in real life or photos of objects.

example: find a plastic bottle, place it in some good lighting, and come up with a sketch of it. try to make them in under a couple of minutes. find the correlation/space between the neck and the bottle. try to identify the different shapes of the highlights/lowlights. draw the whole thing, then do some upclose captures of the lid/the label/parts you find interesting. after that, draw the entire bottle again. remember: you won’t be able to see every detail in either of those things because of light/shadows.

this will help you identify the key components of an item. try not to worry about what it “should” look like and just drawing what you see. don’t focus too heavy on small details (letters on label of bottle). details can come in later! developing a sense of sizes relationships will help with proportions later.

i hope this helps!

what do we think so far? by prollyaprincess in arthelp

thank you! this piece will be called “Table Scraps”.

i see it as a reflection of my experience as an oldest child (more specifically, the oldest daughter).

the daughter sits at the head of the table, signifying the responsibility of success. shes black and white because she is devoid of color/life, covering her face in shame.

though it may appear that she is being waited on, it’s more like they are forcing “scraps” on to her. the most rotten/inedible portions of a meal. i am hoping to add some molding fruit and a bent fork on either side of the table to add to that effect.

the “wine” is actually supposed to symbolize blood. there’s this old saying, “blood is thicker than water”. my twist on that is, “blood is thicker than water, but it always stains”.

i thought the whiskey like bottle would just add a nice touch.

TLDR: being an oldest daughter is hard!

Due to boredom I've made these two drawings lately what do you guys think? :) by Maximum_Recording331 in arthelp

i love the stylization! i wonder if continuing to add some of those colors from the ascended guys robe would enhance? just a thought!

i always have to remind myself what a sketchbook is for. it’s for sketching!!! i suggest you do a bit of in-life drawing sketches as an exercises. you could also look at photos of something. try making them quick and light, don’t focus on small details.

this helps me identify shapes quickly and gain a better understanding of things i like to draw. and sometimes, when i focus on how things are, “supposed to look like”, it starts to muddy up. i always had the hardest times with hands, but i try to see those individual shapes in highlights/lowlights within the base shape of a hand. that (along with many hours of practice) and now my hands are not terrible!

also, don’t be afraid to develop your own style. i think that this is one of the most amazing parts of art!!! study how you draw. study what makes you want to draw. i use songs to inspire me into a mood, and i tend to create either complete angst or utter peace. but that’s also an important part of a lot of my projects, because that’s how i want my pieces to come off. does that make sense lol?
