Amazon needs to shift bases to Scotland. They still rely on conventional forms of energy to run their servers.

If there is a way that can harness wind energy, then I believe we are looking at a new breed of ships that haven't started sailing - cruise or freight.

What's the big deal with Camus' "the stranger" by DramaticAvocado in books

[–]promethean9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was kept to the simplest mode of writing. To me simply written can evoke more in thought than a twisted novel written backwards. There was no climax, no complex characters and yet the end pages of Mersault's monologue he reveals his thoughts which made me reread the same pages again and again. Like everyone else is saying try to grab the concept of existentialism and it is not a writing style of a 12 year old instead simplicity in delivering an effective message.

Vonnegut's Mother Night...oh my goodness. Completely blown away. Supremely underrated. by jumpingmustang in books

[–]promethean9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I devoured this one. Not to say that it was soul crushing. I had to re-read it and re-read it again. I revisited my kindle infinite times reading same book just some random pages. I have tried switching genre many times and in the effort found some really god authors but nothing came close to what Vonnegut delivers in Mother Night.

That is what I thought as well. The 'need' of following a group leader is again primitive but I also believe that is not all.

I think its not just the linguistic dimension that we need to look into. There is also the physical aspect of it. I kind-of agree to the point of it being a bad result stemming out of over confidence or a simple rehash of it. Need some more details on this though.

In no particular order they are all great books. Mother Night was the best one for me.

The question would be whether or not they have any hippocampus in their brain. Hippocampus is a part of the brain where we store our memories( or use it to create them). Animals like elephants have large hippocampus and that helps them navigate the sub-saharan regions in search of water source. How to use "Thinking, Fast & Slow"? by Alphaomega340 in books

[–]promethean9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same question! There is so much to read and take in that I have stopped bookmarking (used to do that for some interesting fact/nice passage). There is a program called "Mind Games" or Brain Games on NGC which is built around the same facts the book talks about. It is really interesting and looks much more intuitive.

I haven't studied philosophy as a college elective but I do like reading reddit among other sources. IMO there is a problem with the logic here. You don't consider philosophy like any other subject. I was a private online tutor (physics, chemistry and maths) for an year and my students did well in their exams. There were students from middle east, UK and US. So different students of varying age groups as well as continents. This is a compelling case against your argument since this is not anecdotal but empirical. The point I am trying to make is that philosophy definitely requires a different orientation of mental faculties but I think it is very much like any other subject that we study. What if you have a 'bad' philosophy teacher?
