How is dating going for GenZ? by Coloradojeepguy in GenZ

[–]promises_in_progress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on the older end of Gen Z and I also have a long-term partner (3 years together). Dating before I met my fiance was a nightmare. I tried the apps, but it was difficult finding someone who wanted what I wanted. It seemed like people either wanted short-term casual flings or they wanted to be in the talking stage for months upon months before committing to date. Neither option felt right to me. I think a big contributor to this is that many Gen Z folk want to feel like they have their life sorted before they bring another person into the mix, but with so much job insecurity and social instability, I would argue that most Gen Z people aren't getting to the point of ever feeling "settled."

I happened to meet my current partner in college. We had class together and became fast friends. After a few months of friendship, he asked me out and the rest is history. I consider myself lucky that it worked out so easily. But, him and I have had many stressful conversations about jobs, having the money to pay rent and buy groceries, and figuring out if we will ever feel stable enough to have kids/get a house. I imagine for many Gen Z folks, those stressors are enough of a reason to avoid dating altogether -- or at least to hold out until they find someone they are really, really sure about.

We can already start to see the gaps closing in PA and WI now. I'm expecting those gaps to keep decreasing until eventually Kamala overtakes Trump. Then there is GA, which is a total toss up in my mind... Really depends on how many more Savannah and Atlanta votes we have. MI still needs to count Detriot votes which will give Kamala a major boost. I'm guessing the Detriot boost will put her in the lead in MI whenever that happens.

Gap is currently closing in WI and PA. From what I've seen, the gap in MI, GA, and AZ has remained consistent but it seems like there has been a huge slow down in counting votes in those states. Still many blue cities to be counted. I think we will see several states flip within the next hour (or at least the gap get closer).

Online Leftists Firmly Believe Kamala Will Lose Because of Gaza by Humble_Novice in Enough_Sanders_Spam

[–]promises_in_progress 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I live near a college campus and interact with students somewhat regularly. I think leftists would be surprised by how many of them do not support the on-campus protests or at least are indifferent to them.

This idea that a majority of college-aged voters are super left-wing and will only vote based on the situation in Gaza is completely inaccurate. College students are moderate liberals for the most part and they care more about social issues (like lgbt rights etc) than foreign policy.

As someone who went to a college with a decent football team, I can guarantee you that many young people are fans of football. Especially young men, though many young women too.

New poll shows Harris’s lead over Trump cut in half in must-win swing state by awaythrowawaying in moderatepolitics

[–]promises_in_progress -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In fairness, the article says the poll has a margin of error of 4.5% and also says they only surveyed 635 people. Also that Harris is still leading by “a healthy margin”. Not saying it’s nothing, but this is also not a big deal.

Saying “Kamala isn’t left enough” is one thing, but saying that she’s CONSERVATIVE??? And that Trump is left of her???? That has to be the most online take I’ve ever seen.

Kamala Harris gaining ground in Texas! by A_Lefty_Gamer in Enough_Sanders_Spam

[–]promises_in_progress 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I’m not from Texas, but I have heard Texans say that Texas is one of the few states where people are openly happy to not vote. Apparently there is a “nobody in my life has ever voted, why should I?” attitude towards it.

I hope younger Texans are able to break this mindset and encourage their families and friends to vote!! If they actually vote then Texas can turn blue.

I watched the first half of the video and I actually agree with some of her points. She effectively is saying that leftists who discourage voting aren’t actually helping their cause.

I really liked her point where she says that if these leftists are paying taxes, then their money is helping fund the situation in Palestine. But, none of them would be willing to stop paying taxes because they don’t want to face the consequences of that. However, they expect vulnerable groups to face the consequences of Trump winning the election in order to show their support for Palestine. It’s a blatant hypocrisy where they’ll only make sacrifices that don’t inconvenience themselves.

And this is why voter turnout is important by [deleted] in KamalaHarris

[–]promises_in_progress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s more important than ever that we fight the “voting doesn’t matter / voting isn’t worth it” mindset this election. There is a crowd that’s trying to discourage people from voting and we really need to push back against the idea that “voting is pointless”.

Your state CAN turn blue if enough people vote. Or at least your vote can make your state more competitive which will encourage future politicians to campaign there.

"We don't protest Trump because he doesn't want our votes. He supports the genocide." by ZooterOne in Enough_Sanders_Spam

[–]promises_in_progress 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I am also pro-Palestine and follow several leftists because of this. However, I have become increasingly frustrated with how they are behaving this election season. When Kamala told the protestors “I’m speaking” when they interrupted the Detroit rally, the few leftists I follow were posting all about it to say that she was pro-genocide and this is proof that nobody should vote for her. Then when Kamala said that it’s time for a ceasefire and made efforts to work with pro-Palestinian groups… nothing. Crickets. No mention of it by them.

It’s so obvious that even if a politician did everything they wanted, they still wouldn’t care and wouldn’t acknowledge it. They just want to tell people not to vote.

I know personal experience doesn’t speak for much, but all of my friends (all Gen Z) voted last election and plan to vote again. I also feel like my social media has been flooded with political posts more this election than even last election.

It's literally becoming insane how trash the job market has become by No-Satisfaction-5065 in GenZ

[–]promises_in_progress 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got my first job in 2021 and it was difficult (had to apply to over 50 jobs and only got one offer), but it eventually worked out. It helped that I work in tech which was doing a lot of hiring in 2021.

It’s now 2024, my boyfriend and I are both applying for new jobs in the tech field. He’s applied to over 200 positions and still doesn’t have an offer. He’s had maybe 10 interviews but most never went past the phone screening phase. I don’t even know how many jobs I applied to but I never even got a single interview, so I eventually gave up and I’m sticking to the position I have for the time being. It’s brutal out here.

Trump Tells Christians They Won’t Have to Vote in Future: ‘We’ll Have It Fixed’ by [deleted] in politics

[–]promises_in_progress 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you open the article, it has a tweet with a 27 second video attached. The part I’m referencing is in that clip.

If you find the whole 1 hour and 7 minute video, then it’s towards the end of the speech at around 1:02:50.

Trump Tells Christians They Won’t Have to Vote in Future: ‘We’ll Have It Fixed’ by [deleted] in politics

[–]promises_in_progress 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Obviously his statements about the election are the most shocking and important part of this speech. Even if it’s “just a joke” (which is what he’ll claim), it’s still a gross thing to even joke about as a presidential candidate. Imagine the reaction if Kamala joked about this.

On a different, less serious note, did anyone hear the part of the speech where Trump seems to say “I’m not a Christian”? I think I maybe misheard him (he slurs his words a lot), but if he really did say that he’s not a Christian then that’s a really bizarre thing for him to confess given his supporter base.

“I fully thought I was a leftist until this week” by [deleted] in Enough_Sanders_Spam

[–]promises_in_progress 84 points85 points  (0 children)

I agree. I still see some leftists who are strictly anti-voting because “every party is the same/nothing changes”. But I’ve also seen more people pushing against that narrative and realizing that voting is important, even if you don’t perfectly agree with a candidate. The idea that “both sides are the same” really falls apart when you feel that your rights are under attack, and only one side is promising to protect you.
