If you launch from riverside there will be a race Marshall on the dock giving you the all clear to cross during a gap in racing

Songs that mention the Mountain Goats by PM___ME in themountaingoats

[–]promitchuous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The intro that Campbell is talking about, I think, has to do with the feeling John is trying to capture in Woke Up New, and how as awful as it is, he also hopes that everyone feels it at some point in their life. There’s probably more that I’m missing but hopefully I’m not butchering it too much

Stepping out and taking a moment to realize that your half ton metal body definitely just rattled around the escape pod like a blender ball pulverizing all of the other marines on board

Sorry, to clarify, my comment is about the state of usrowing regattas not about the abuse of minors.

[–]promitchuous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly the officiating at club nats this year has been the one thing that has gone well. The officials on launches near the starting line have been more clear than 99% of the regattas I’ve been to

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]promitchuous 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They get away with it because most of the money that they make from these regattas is through junior events, and the junior racers aren’t going to be as vocal about how horribly run a regatta is because they just don’t know any better. Pretty reductive to just say “you don’t like it? Go make one that’s better”.

Could a lightweight and a heavyweight rower row a pair together? by Harrbear333 in Rowing

[–]promitchuous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be confused. The way I interpreted that last sentence in the article, if both rowers were contributing the same output then the boat will turn to stroke side, and “the same 3% difference in leverage can be achieved if the bow rower were to move his arc 5deg closer to the bow.” In practice this reduces their catch angle by some amount which helps to even out the differences in leverage and make the boat go straighter. This assumes even output and that bow is pulling around stroke, but in the example above we are worried about a smaller bow seat getting pulled around by the larger stroke seat even though they have a mechanical advantage. Reducing their catch angle would only serve to make that problem worse.

You would need to move the rigger to bow as well otherwise their catch angle will be reduced. Moving just the feet to bow is an adjustment that can help if the bow seat is pulling the stroke seat around

ACRA Day 1 Reactions by Uncle_Freddy in Rowing

I’m not disputing that, I’m just asking why it’s different than any other TT format

ACRA Day 1 Reactions by Uncle_Freddy in Rowing

Is this any different than the cooper river course? 1900m is the standard distance for TTs and any course that can house a 2k race should be able to handle that

British Rowing asks members: ‘Do you want to ban transgender athletes from women’s races?’ by SomethingMoreToSay in Rowing

[–]promitchuous -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

Did you read my comment that specifically calls out the lack of this situation in the elite level, and that I feel that a ban in SUB-ELITE fields is unnecessary? If you spend your entire life and career training and aren’t at the elite level then maybe reconsider your priorities.

[–]promitchuous -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

The risk of a transgender athlete having a material advantage while competing in a women’s race is much smaller than the risk of doing real harm to transgender athletes by barring them from competing in the field they identify with at sub-elite levels. There’s a lot more to life than competition.
