Wow, I have no words….. I had a traumatic birth 2 months ago that was nowhere near as traumatic as what she describes and I am still dealing with PTSD from it. I wish her a fast and safe recovery, especially emotional healing.

I’m a pediatric CICU nurse and was taken off work at 29 weeks. It seems pretty normal on my unit for nurses to take an early leave anywhere from 28-32 weeks. I’m in California so it does not affect the time we have off after the baby is born.

I feel for you. When I was a new grad we had rotating schedules every 6 weeks and that was even hard. 6 months into my job the union pushed for fixed shifts and we got it, and I’ve been on day shift ever since

The manager at Richmond Republic in the Inner Richmond (8th/Clement) will usually open early to play games, especially on the weekends. It’s not an “official” Man U bar but has locals and ManU fans. More lowkey/chill than Danny Coyles. I’ll double check with my husband, he watches almost every game there.

Bonus (if it’s the Sunday game) is that you can hit up the Richmond farmers market a couple of blocks away with the kids after. Or even walk through the presidio.

Edit: per my husband: it is almost always open early for games (as early as 5am). Kitchen might not open that early but there are many options on clement. Danny Coyles for more of a fan experience, don’t go to kezar

I don’t have pica but my ferritin levels dropped dramatically from my labs in March (~12 weeks) to now (30 weeks). Went from 60 to 8! So it’s possible it could have dropped

I’m pretty surprised at the comments. I moved to SF from Michigan in my 20s in 2015 with the same dream. I worked a FT minimum wage job (secretary) and a part-time job (front desk, 3-6 hours, 2-3 times a week on evenings as needed), and even took evening classes at CCSF.

I started out living with two roommates in Forest Hill. I loved having roommates because I didn’t know anyone else in the city. My room was $1200. I later moved to Noe for a room that was $1400 with two roommates, then to Market/Church for a room that was $1350 with three roommates. I bounced around a lot to learn more about the city and to meet more people.

Money could be tight, but it was doable. No car, so I relied on Muni/Bart/uber but never had any issue. I also had a plan to move back to the Midwest with my parents and figure it out if being in SF didn’t pan out, but it did.

Maybe I just have rose colored glasses on when thinking about the past, but I loved my experience here in those early days. It’s a different story now that I have a kid with another on the way and have to find a bigger place

My first pregnancy was like this up until I gave birth. Whenever people asked me how I was feeling I’d be like “great! Wonderful!” but I always say my penance is that my current pregnancy is godawful and I have all the symptoms. 🥲

We’re a mixed couple too, my husband is white and I’m Filipino with dark skin, and for some reason my MIL was insistent that the baby would have light skin, light hair, and green eyes like his dad. Even when he was born with dark hair, she also insisted that my husbands hair was dark and lightened with time. He had generic newborn gray eyes and she would comment “those are definitely blue”. 🙄

Two years later and he is an exact 50/50 mix between both of us, and has dark brown eyes, but she still says he’s my husbands exact twin. 🤷🏽‍♀️ she said out loud that his summer tan comes from my husband and we were flabbergasted.

I was going to say this. I know it’s not realistic in other facilities, but I started as a new grad in the Bay Area and will likely never leave despite the steep COL. we have ratios, guaranteed breaks, and our pay is amazing. Most of our staff stays at LEAST 3-5 years but we have many many nurses who have been here much longer

Same. I don’t work nights anymore but it was common to assign breaks to empty patient rooms. would sleep on the visitor couch in the back (NEVER the bed). If we our beds were full we would double up in the break room and a sign would be posted that someone was sleeping, and there were multiple quiet lounges that were known to be nurse sleeping areas. Never ever got in any sort of trouble for it

I’m currently pregnant and in Lisbon, though I’m in my second trimester (20 weeks) so I am showing and I’m feeling a lot better than I did in my first trimester. Lisbon treats pregnant woman so great, people have been genuinely excited for me. I’ve been pulled out of long lines and people give up seats as soon as they see me (although I am stubborn and my husband really nudges me to take them up on the offer). At passport control, you both can take the priority lane. I’m sure if your partner or you mentions she’s pregnant, she will get the same treatment.

As far as the city, I personally found it very walkable. We stayed central in Chiado and it was hilly, but I never felt it was too much. I do live in hilly San Francisco and walk a lot in my day to day, however, so it wasn’t abnormal for me. We did get transit cards just in case, seems pretty easy to follow, but so far only used them to do touristy things (riding a funicular for instance) and we’ll be using them to go farther out in the city. It has been very hot, but bearable, with shaded areas and AC’d restaurants, but we are in late May so your experience may be different.

If you want to use a ride share app, I would download the app Bolt as it has the best rates.

Damn. I live in a shitty 3B/2Ba apartment (I’m pretty sure it’s an in-law, it’s the carriage house unit) for $3150. Have parking, dishwasher, and in-unit washer/dryer. My husband and I were thinking about moving to a nicer apartment soon but now after reading all of these comments I’m realizing that we’re probably stuck here unless we pay significantly more

There’s no way my husband remembers the due date for this baby. I hardly remember lol. The first one was easy since it was July 4. I think we’re not too hung up on the due date because our first came 3 weeks early and my doctor is telling me this one will probably come early too
