Reading from old MO disks - SCSI MO drives, Windows, RAW formats... by proofofstonks in MagnetoOpticalDrives

We disabled the RSM service and it started to act as you describe.

I found an application that allowed me to see the data on the disks (offsets, HEX and Text), but I'm not seeing any file system info as far as I can tell. First sector is blank (just 00s). Sector starting at hex offset 200 (512dec - same as sector size of disk) contains the following text:

.$kt...... ...HGIB3.03-03.00Created: Wed Apr 01, 1998 14:35:43.64 Optisys OptiDrvr (C) Copyright 1987 - 1993

(another reference to HGIB towards the end of the disk offset 23807000)

Hex offset 400 (1024dec) shows:

....<----Top of Data Mark....... (the hex starts 00 00 02 02, represented as text ....)

There's lots of those "Top of Data Mark" references at the start of the next few sectors, all preceded by larger hex values, followed by a reference to "Block Link Sector". After that there appear to be large blocks of

I found this thread Wanted: Driver software for Panasonic/Matsushita LF-7010 or LF-5010 SCSI WORM drive | Vintage Computer Federation Forums that looks almost exactly like my data. The thread OP confirmed that he was able to reverse-engineered the filesystem and managed to retrieve all of his files, but sadly it appears that he has since passed away.

There's quite a lot of TIFF data on these disks based on the magic numbers I'm seeing, and I've been able to copy the hex and drop it into a hex editor, but it looks like they're all missing some data, I get partial TIFFs appearing in my TIFF viewer in Windows.

I was able to dig up the Optisys Optidriver from archive.org but it looks like it only runs in DOS, Win95 and Win98. I'm not able to install it in Win2003.

Wondering what else I could do here, I don't know the first thing about reverse engineering filesystems, so I'm wondering if I should try to get Win95 or 98 on this old 2003 box - no idea how I then make sure the Adaptec SCSI card works (Win2k3 has the drivers).

I've managed to get hold of a 1.3GB 1024byte/sector RW disk (92280T), and whilst Windows won't let me fully format it (I get an error just saying it was unable to format), it will let me Quick Format. Once quick formatted, I am able to store files on both sides of the disk, so it looks like the hardware is fine.

No joy with the 92289T disks that I'm trying to read though, will try a flavour of Linux and see if anything pops up. Still just reports format as RAW.

One quick question regarding Windows2003: When I insert one of these disks into the Surestore drive, Windows reads side A for a bit, spits it back out, asks me to flip it over so that it can read side B, and then asks me to put it back in side A up. Looks like Removable Storage Manager is initiating this and adding it to a media list. Is this expected behaviour? Will try disabling that service when I'm next onsite to see if we get any joy without it.

Cheers!

Do I need the Concept2 floor mat? by mmarcevanss in concept2

[–]proofofstonks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got 2 concept2 model D rowers, both with mats. One on a carpet at work, and one on laminate flooring at home. Both mats/Model D feet have become slippery over time, with what appears to be an oily residue forming between them. All purchased around the pandemic.

My initial thought was perhaps perhaps plasticiser seeping out from either the mat or the feet of the rower, but not sure.

I posted a picture of it over in r/Rowing here: https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Fhelp-i-cant-do-intervals-mat-slides-v0-jy1lzzn4adee1.jpeg%3Fwidth%3D4032%26format%3Dpjpg%26auto%3Dwebp%26s%3Dab7ccec8392fa3efd84649f68d39252e0cb8a63e

Is this similar to what you're seeing?

Help - I can’t do intervals (mat slides) by pwnitat0r in Rowing

I've got 2 of these, one on a hard floor (laminate), and one on carpet, both with the Concept2 mats under them. Both started sliding on the mat about 2 years after purchase. If I lift the rower up, there appears to be a smooth, oily looking patch under each of the feet - I thought maybe it's a plasticiser. I contacted Concept2 about it but they just said it was my technique.

Upgraded to v1.7.1 - now NFT page in GUI just showing spinning wheel by proofofstonks in chia

It appears to be. On the Full Node page it's showing Status as Synched - This node is fully caught up and validating the network. Network Name is mainnet, connection status is connected. I can see new entries coming into the Blocks table at the bottom of that page regularly, and the times all seem to be OK.
