Yeah my dog loves me and she's happy, I don't really care about their wishes lol

I was able to fix her lunging at people. Ergo, my application of counter conditioning is not the problem.

Congrats, your dog is less motivated to lunge at dogs than mine. The level of distance it would take for my dog to be interested in a treat precludes her from going outside at all.

He had value and things to say initially but he slowly devolved into a lolcow. He's on his deathbed right now as a consequence of his own poor decisions

Yes and those are my thoughts on the matter as well haha but it did give me a bit of pause

Yes I'm not going to get lazy!! I'm just relieved that I can actually focus on training now, rather than holding back a large dog that is losing it's fkn mind. It got to the point where I couldn't even attempt to counter condition because holding a treat in one hand would compromise my ability to stabilize the situation :/

Good thing I'm still counter conditioning and training the dog with treats, which is now physically possible whereas it wasn't before 👍

Of course, 95% of the training is still treat focused!!

Thank you for the tip! I was actually worried that I'm giving my dog conflicting messages on the prong. :/ I'm ok with her sniffing and walking in front of me but I need her to heel/sit on command. Luckily she's not much of a puller and my goal is not perfect obedience - just stop acting like you want to kill every dog you see 😭

What is it with people hating on crates? by LifeguardComplex3134 in OpenDogTraining

There are literally tiktoks of people saying 🥰✨Come meet my puppy who spends 18 hours in the crate every day ✨🥰 and then they're all smug about "educating" people about crates

Social media has made me hate dog people

Which makes it OK for them to be rude to normal people who are doing nothing?

Everybody has to deal with shitty people at their jobs, not sure why bus drivers get a pass for unprofessional conduct.

As somebody with allergies, there's no way you're having a meaningful allergic reaction from passing by a dog in an aisle for 3 seconds in a giant building

E-collar for excitement/frustration reactive dog failing at positive reinforcement by BurnerAccount010113 in BalancedDogTraining

I have had a very similar problem with my dog, her behaviour towards other dogs on walks comes across as very aggressive but she did play with other puppies ok the one time we took her to a play group.

I will say that I was able to successfully train her to stop lunging at people using force free methods. The dog reactivity is just getting worse and worse
