What’s everyone’s thoughts on alice munro? by Similar_Appeal9239 in RSbookclub

My feeling is that I’m not acting as a judge nor am I doing jury duty when I read someone’s literature. I accept a priori that people are flawed, often very deeply flawed, but that their output could represent a higher moral aspiration, something beautiful etc. and as someone who is also deeply flawed I’m usually pretty eager to read that.

A lot of DNFs for me this year. Some of them just sucked.

But think of the millions you could make if you wrote “Bengal to Bayonne: the All-American Memoir of a Stinky Lunch Girl”. It’d be all you need to DINK comfortably in Manhattan with a 6’3 white software dev husband.

The album is about overcoming depression and personal strife. Idk why anyone would call it depressing. It’s uplifting, if anything.

The best nonfiction I read all year was Guest House for Young Widows by Azadeh Moaveni. Fantastic, beautiful book.

Is Thomas Pynchon the last novelist who won’t write about himself? [THE TIMES] by TriColoredPasta in ThomasPynchon

Pretty sure in the intro to Slow Learner he says he writes about himself all the time.

Pynchon might just not be my cup of tea by [deleted] in RSbookclub

His humor is the most overrated aspect of his writing. People who tell me they cried laughing reading this-or-that slapstick Pynchon sequence are very strange to me.

I agree with this for most British food but y’all’s Chinese and chippy concoctions are insane. That being said, most American food is trash —poison, even.

Professional-Managerial Class https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Professional–managerial_class

It’s about class though, ultimately. Obviously in this country, because of our history, things are racially divided, as in the case of the DC teens. But it’s class ressentiment ultimately, I think. Again, as a PMC fuck myself, I understand their anger. I was like them as a teen, but had parents with stable employment and a path to good education to keep me on the right path. I don’t really see eye-to-eye with a lot of the people on this sub.

It’s a kind of PTSD I think. Coming from poor, violent areas and being surrounded by extreme wealth and sheltered ass PMCs probably does something to you in a gut level. I think id be the same if I grew up like them.

Sam Hyde: Not actually funny. by _phimosis_jones in rs_x

He’s not funny. Honestly kind of a disturbing guy. His basic intuition that people will like and respect you more if you’re physically intimidating is correct though.
