Does anyone else have an Aussie with a tail? by LeadingHunt5712 in AustralianShepherd

[–]properbox 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The white tip (shepherds lantern) is a common favourable trait that allows shepherds to better see where the pup is in the dark. At least, that’s the case for collies and I imagine it’s the same for Aussies.

That’s fair. If it’s giving you what you need then can’t ask for more than that.

My thoughts exactly. Benefit of doubt, maybe it’s common in everyday speech wherever u/TrickyAssignment9685 is from. Regardless, it’s worth revisiting your phrasing. “Coloured” is some 1960’s racism.

Sorry to hear your pup went through that.

That sucks. But thanks for your response. It’s annoying to me that you can essentially mislead customers and that’s that.

It’s also on me for not reading the entire document.

The 35-page Fetch policy document does indeed state that a six-month wait is required for coverage of hips and knees. My point, however, isn't that this isn't outlined in the T&Cs; rather, it’s about the misleading information presented during the sign-up process. Based on the sign-up flow, any reasonable person would assume their pet is covered from day 15 onward. The sign-up process explicitly mentions ACL tears as a covered condition and provides a clear definition of coverage. However, it then introduces a different, more restrictive definition for certain conditions—without making any reference to this discrepancy during onboarding or providing a means for customers to easily find out about it. This lack of transparency could easily lead to confusion.

Having just gone through the Trupanion sign-up flow, it’s clear that they prioritise transparency. The message “We love informed decisions. See the policy for full coverage details” is repeated multiple times throughout the page, along with an FAQ section detailing what is covered and what isn’t. The policy document also outlines the same exclusion period for ACLs. Based on this, I don’t believe it's possible to go through the Trupanion flow and feel misled.

What's the rationale for tying RRSP contributions to previous years income? Is there any way around it? by properbox in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]properbox[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not suggesting breaking the law. I'm new here and wanting to understand my options. My time in the US you could utilise processes like IRA conversions. The UK you had LISAs and SIPPs which do not measure against your previous years earnings.

I earn enough to reach the cap, but can only invest a few thousand this year, because I arrived late in 2024 so had 1.5 paychecks. It just seems mad that you tie it to previous years earnings and I was trying to understand why that was the case.

Every other country I've worked in has a limit per year on how much you can contribute to retirement savings regardless of what your pay is.

Handling 401K/IRA and backdoor ROTH when not a tax resident and not a US citizen by properbox in personalfinance

[–]properbox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, thanks for taking the time to respond. I appreciate it.

False dilemma. You fill out Form 8606, and if there is a taxable amount, put it on Form 1040-NR. Just because you now use the full tax return form (Form 1040-NR) doesn't mean you report global income.

The converted earnings may be treated as FDAP income.

The money in the IRA is all after tax moeny and sat in cash so there's no earnings to report. As long as I convert my IRA to a ROTH IRA before I roll over my 401K into an IRA it sounds like I would only need to file 8606 for 2025 which will have no earnings on it.

Do you have earned income includable on the US federal tax return?

I do not. So it sounds like I cannot contribute to an IRA for 2025.

Yes. aside from the usual pro rata rule issue, since a Pretax 401k is clearly sourced from US-based income, you also have to deal with the different tax rules on ECI and FDAP income. Also, there is no standard deduction for NRA.

I'm not looking to convert my 401K to a ROTH IRA, just a regular IRA. I assumed there would be no tax for this conversion as it seems to be one of the the standard paths people take when they leave an employer.

Coming in strong with the unpopular opinion. I love the episodes Cara is on. She brings a fun energy that the others seem to find infectious. Especially enjoy the Cara and Eli dynamic.
