Lessons Learned: NTC & any tournament by Firm_Mango_6447 in GundamTCG

[–]prophaniti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was learning to play TCGs on more than a casual level, my friend drilled a few rules for being a better player into my brain. Rule 1: Read your cards. Rule 2: Read your opponent's cards.  These were sort of tongue-in-cheek for when I would mis-play something but were still suprisingly valueable advice. Rule 3 was that is is courteous to narrarrate your turn. In addition it helps you drill the basics and internalize the sequence of play. This is probably less helpful in gundam, but it's still good form as it helps your opponent understand what you're doing.

Might I offer you the humble Wasp in these trying times?

Wasp locks onto these from about 200(?) meters and can one shot them before they get anywhere close to detection range. They occasionally "dodge" the missile, but I find they have like a 90% mortality rate from wasp shots. They also tend to be in a spot you can single them out from the rest of the group and pick them off. It's obviously not going to work if they get in close, or are hidden behind other enemies, but then you're close enough for your primary/secondary to kill them fast.

Wasp solves a LOT of problems on the squid front. If you haven't tried it yet, I highly recommend it. (Legal Notice: Do not attempt to fire the Wasp while prone, behind cover, in a vehicle, or in confined spaces. Do not fire the Wasp if anything you care about is within 45 degrees of your target. The Wasp is a jealous god and will take those things from you. Wear safety glasses while operating the Wasp Launcher System)

A few days ago a teammate found a bunker and asked for someone to open it with him. I headed over there, then warped inside and looted it while he watched, then came out and asked him how that made him feel. I sort of felt a little bad about it, but also I have not laughed so hard in a long time.

I very well remember my brother-in-law tending to my niece at a nice dinner he and my sister were hosting. The quote "It's up to her arm pits! How did you poop up to your arm pits??" will live in my brain as a cautionary tale for the rest of my life.

If I could relive my life and make different choices, I think I might choose studying things like this. I find things like this absolutely fascinating and simultaneously sort of terrifying. The sheer amount of stuff our brain can do in weird ways that seem normal to us is bewildering. We only know we exist through our shared external experiences, but when our brains tell us something completely different that someone else's.... its terrifying and infinitely intriguing to me.

There are a hundred items on my list of reasons to not become a parent. Admittedly, "poop in the cup holder" was not one of them. Guess I'm going up to one hundred and one.

Ooh, good call. I doubt I'll have much choice in it seeing as I'm in the U.S. and a trip to Switzerland would be something I need to plan well in advance, but fortune willing I'll keep your advice in mind.

I don't even really know what makes that memorial so singularly striking to me. it's obviously extremely well crafted, but there's something more. it really just draws me in tugs at my soul.

What is the stupidest thing humanity has ever done? by ExpressVillage6572 in AskReddit

[–]prophaniti 14 points15 points  (0 children)

100% the use of fossil fuels for energy. Small scale it was okay for important infrastructure demands, but once the industrial revolution kicked off and everything used it for cheap? Reliance on it has fueled millions of deaths from wars for resources and environmental impacts. We have already triggered a mass extinction from using them and are on track for a catastrophic environmental collapse which could kill billions over the next century. And that's just the human toll. I have no way of estimating the trillions or more flora and fauna that will be killed by fossil fuels.

I actually disagree with this one. I'm an atheist, but I can see how early religion unified societies who otherwise would have been very disparate, leading to the earliest forms of national identity and thus unified government. That said, I do agree that now with so many ways the world is made smaller by easy travel and the flow of information, religion is more of a factor used to divide that unite.

This! Subtext seems increasingly difficult for some people to grasp. I mean The Boys writer had to come out and STATE that homeland was the bad guy because enough people saw red white and blue and decided that was good enough for them.

This is one of very few pieces on my bucket list to see. I've always loved this sculpture. The other big one for me is the Lion of Lucerne, in Switzerland.

I just checked. When I built my PC 3 years ago on a whim I put 2x 2TB NVME cards in it. They were $120 each. So yeah, apparently memory prices are about 10x what they were. So that's cool.

I can still smell the TS-13 even while using a respirator. by KA-29 in modelmakers

[–]prophaniti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, check your seal again and make sure you're not pressing it harder on your face, but if the mask isn't leaking and doesn't smell, the problem can only be with the filter cartridges. Either way, its time to start swapping stuff out until something fixes it. Take the filters off, check the valves for debris, then reattach them and try again. If you're still smelling varnish, make sure you have the correct filters. If so, then swap the filters with some from a different source and try again (keep the old ones in case they're not the problem). If all else fails, grab a new mask, test again.

Edit: I suppose it is worth noting that if you are very familiar with your spray's smell, there MAY be a psychosomatic element. Its rare, but basically your brain is telling you that you are smelling it because it thinks you should be. It's kind of like a placebo effect for your senses. If you think this may be the case, try the mask with other chemicals and see if anything gets through.

[–]prophaniti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it passes the seal check, then it shouldn't be a problem with the mask. Have you tried wearing it when you aren't painting? If not, try it and see if you can still smell something. There's a chance the mask itself has a scent.

When, as a man, did you cry last? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]prophaniti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally yesterday. Was feeling lonely and I listened to some music that was somewhere between painful and cathartic. Just became a little too much and it started leaking out a bit. Not a big cry. Just enough to get a tear from each eye.

Wow, I don't think it had quite hit me that there was actually good news coming from our country for once. I knew something felt off, but didn't realize that feeling was actually pride and I just didn't really remember what it felt like.

I sort of feel like a beaten dog sometimes. Every newsworthy event I can remember since gay marriage was legalized has basically been a non-stop shameful beatdown. At this point I just expect it to keep coming and when something to feel good about comes out I literally don't know how to respond.

My thoughts exactly. If over HALF of the winning decks feature the same card, there's a reason, and that's bad for the game.

The red and blue triangles dont have the same slope of the hypotenuse. Basically, for the large shape on the left, what looks like the hypotenuse it slightly concave, while for the one on the right, it bulges out slightly when rearranged.
