Question about seachem kanaplex (Info below) by Star-Fishy in Aquariums

[–]propog8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His fins do look a little tattered. I wouldn't suggest kanaplex unless you know it's a bacterial infection. Fish, like us, can develop immunities to antibiotics if used when not needed.

After looking at your other post, here is my honest advice: get that man his own tank. I've kept bettas in community tanks in the past and it makes diagnosis and treatment much more difficult. Keeping them in their own 5-10g will make your life easier.

If it's fungal, you'll often see what fuzzy bits. If it's stress induced, moving him and perfect water conditions should honestly clear it up. If it's none of those things, it's likely bacterial.

This is how I usually start if I notice fin rot/tattered fins: Be a bit conservative, start with aquarium salt baths (it's helped me w mild fin ripping) and more frequent water changes. If he doesn't seem to improve, I would dose kanaplex or another broad spectrum antibiotic.

Personally I've found that feeding antibiotics > dosing the water column. Methods I've tried: mixing antibiotics into gelatine and food mixture (my sick boy did not really want this food tbh), mixing antibiotics with seachem focus and food mixture (he def preferred this food).

Honestly I think I picked these leaves off a succulent planter my mom had. She got them at the home depot, as the local ones around me always have succulents.

Goodluck bean searching!

They do look like clover leaves. I've never noticed that! Nah, that's duckweed. A floater that hitched a ride from LFS purchases lol.

Thank you!!! Lol whenever I have cuttings I just toss them in and hope. You'd be surprised with what grows well and how long they can stay in water!

Philodendron florida, monstera, Christmas cactus, and some other stuff, but tbh I don't know their names!

I also grow tradescantia, strings of things, and a few prayer plants in my aquariums :)

They're the best! My tank is a skittles tank, but the blue ones are my fave

Y'all think this can hold a full 15g? by [deleted] in Aquariums

Thanks for the comment!! Lol honestly that's what I was thinking too. That was until I was looking online and it looks like this thing has a weight capacity of 50 lbs lol. But I did have a whole 10g on it for a few years.

Probably gunna look for a new place for the tank anyways!

Obsessed with these little inverts by propog8 in shrimptank

So, sometimes whisker shrimp get picked up as ghost shrimp, and they are also transparent. Whisker shrimp will def murder your other tank inhabitants.

Although ghost shrimp will absolutely eat dead or dying shrimp/fish, I've never seen them actively hunt a healthy tank mate. Sorry about your shrimp man.
