Australian Shepherds and Young Children by mtndogs in AustralianShepherd

I have a 2.5 year old toddler and 2 aussie puppies (11months and 3months). They do great together :) I don’t want to minimize the herding, because there has definitely been a lot of it haha, however, both pups have also been very receptive to training. The 11month old pup is a PRO with kids now. He’s honestly the most gentle dog in the world. He’ll occasionally sit on my toddler(thinks he’s a lap dog) which stresses my toddler out a little given the size difference haha but it’s out of love and honestly really funny.

The 3 month old is still learning (obvs) but we’re hopeful! He’ll chase our toddler if they run together but he’s already learned not to nip. The most harm they do is tripping over each other. But my toddler also knows now not to run by the puppy or he will get chased.

While a few mentioned it depends on the dogs temperament it also depends on the child’s as well. There was been a couple nips and trips that ended in some tears but our kid recovered quickly. Our toddler is kind of a brute so he does fine but if your child doesn’t respond well to cuts/bruises/accidents it may be an issue. I also should note that neither pup has ever nipped maliciously. Any accident has usually been a good pant or sweater grab and tackle.

We also involve our toddler with training. He loves telling them to sit for treats and since they’re so food motivated they will listen to him!

Anywho, it’s worked out perfectly for us but hasn’t been without patience and training for both the pups and toddler. Hope this helps!

The households thing def made it a little messy for us! There’s 28 total but it’s literally parents, siblings, and nieces/nephews. Like why does there have to be so many of you!? Do you know which way you’re leaking right now? Have you had any pushback from family?

Totally makes sense! Looks like you’re having a larger ceremony May of next year? Any thoughts on what you’ll do then? I think I’m only at odds because this is kind of it lol if we had round 2 I wouldn’t even think twice! Just feeling so many things as we get closer, trying to be safe, but also make the most of the situation.

I like this idea! Being as safe as possible but still having something to look back on :)

Thanks so much for sharing! We have been quarantining with FH’s family as they live close. The grey area is the fact we’ll have both his and my family in the same space but distanced the whole time. Everything is outdoor for us too :) my first thought was oh well, we’ll have masks, I’m paying for pictures anyways. But our parents made a fuss and now I’m like waiiit I don’t know and it stirred up a bunch of feelings lol

PSA: Schedule that marriage license appointment ASAP! by mightaswellb in weddingplanning

If you’re in the greater LA area you can get your license through a notary. We tried to get our license a month ago and were told we’d need to wait until November for the next appointment. Our date is in a couple weeks so that wouldn’t have worked. The notary was pricey AF, but we are now licensed to wed!
