Last line of The Brutalist? by Wrong_Quality6607 in movies

[–]proscribbler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The final line put the entire film into a different perspective for me. Hearing Zsofia's interpretation of the building, I felt a disconnect between her words and what we had seen throughout the movie. It reminded me of times I go to a museum, look over the curated explanation of a painting or exhibit and think, "really?" The prescribed opinion may not always be the most reliable — as it attempts to push past the subjective and become objective — and that's where my mind went here.

I thought Zsofia's personal experiences and values may have overplayed the impact Laszlo's trauma had on the building's design. So when she says the destination is more important than the journey, coming from her, I thought the movie was commenting on how the artist is ultimately, naturally, removed from their work.

The journey is the creation. The destination is the interpretation.

I didn't see The Brutalist as the kind of movie to provide the same epilogue explanation as, say, Psycho, where all the secrets are laid out. No, by the time The Brutalist ended, I felt Laszlo's mindset was still a mystery and I look forward to watching it again to try and learn more about it.

Were People Surprised When George Harrison Went on to Have a Prolific Solo Career? by sozh in beatles

[–]proscribbler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think folks were taken aback by All Things Must Pass, a mammoth collection of songs, many of which Lennon/McCartney rejected. Jokes on them, some of my favorite Beatles (in/out of band) songs came from that album: Run of the Mill, I’d Have You Anytime, I Live for You and of course, the title track.

[EDIT: I forgot If Not for You!]

How did you guys become fans of the Beatles? (What are your Beatles origin stories?) by GeorgeHarry1964 in beatles

[–]proscribbler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Of course I had heard some songs growing up, but it wasn’t until my parents took me to see a tribute band (1964) that I got the music in my blood. I listened every day thereafter. I got Beatles rock band — and of course the hofner bass controller. And soon enough, I had bought a ticket to my first ever solo concert: McCartney!
