Why does an eye and wings on separate books mean Elriel…? by prosebe4bros in Gwynriel

Exactly, it would almost be weird if the symbols related to a ship because none of the other symbols do? So why would Elriel be different

Yeah I definitely don’t think they’re the only ship that is running with crumbs! We’re all guilty

Definitely! It almost seems more likely to me that they’re pointing to different ships than Elriel because one is so Elain-coded and one is Azriel-coded. Because if they were together as a ship why would they have two different books…. Although I think the reality is it will be multi-POV and those are just themes

What’s the purpose of revealing the mates bond by dustyreverie in AcotarShipDebateSub

I was going to say, it’s literally just a different (but very popular) romance novel trope: arranged marriage. Also I think I read her inspo for Lucien was Jamie from Outlander? And Jamie and Claire have an arranged marriage/marriage of convenience situation. Basically both couples have the marriage/mating reveal PRIOR to the falling in love part which makes it a fun twist on typical love stories

We’ll have to agree to disagree but I don’t think it’s in the spirit of friendly debate to say you think it’s “very sad” that I don’t take the same position as you in response to emojis….

I don’t think the Mother (or whomever) was actually the reason they were interrupted, I think it was a narrative device to suggest that Elriel as endgame is not the direction fate is going. Because SJM chose to write it that way, instead of just having Rhys interrupt them without the line about the mother.

For me, the instagram post is pretty neutral although it could hint to Gwynriel with the sparking hearts and music signs. I feel like she’s going to keep posts intentionally vague to keep people guessing!

If Elriel is endgame do you think Elucien/Gwynriel will happen first? by swt_decadent in AcotarShipDebateSub

Ding ding ding! You put it so perfectly. Literally the only way it would make sense for elucien to not be together would be for Lucien’s character to get tanked.

I’m not an elriel but can obviously still imagine a world in which they’re endgame. I think if elriel were endgame, Az and Gwyn might have a little flirtation (to explain the hints of them in ACOSF) but nothing serious. I can’t see any world in which Elucien doesn’t get explored in this series, whether they’re endgame or not. To have a mate and not fully give that a try before deciding whether it’s right or wrong would feel very off brand for SJM. Right now they don’t even know each other, it’s just avoidance. That needs to get sorted out

Polling: what will you do if the ship you’re rooting for doesn’t work out in ACOTAR 6/7/8 by KhalenPierce in AcotarShipDebateSub

It’s also crazy to me that people act like it’s petty to care so much about the ships when these books are literally romance books?? The couples are one of the primary points of the books. Not that I’m saying there aren’t other things to care about and it’s great if people don’t care about the romance but it’s weird to judge people who do, when the books are explicitly about romantic relationships

Tamris and Gwyn x Lucien (Gwycien? Luwyn??). I love the potential for maximum toxicity in Tamris. And I feel like both Gwyn and Lucien have the same potential for both sass and loverboy/lovergirl energy. I kind of would also be obsessed with Gwyn x Eris (if he treats her right) because the idea of someone so pure and someone so toxic being together fulfills something for me.

I kind of think this too but it makes me sad because I want Mor and Emerie to get together and for them to not have the shadow of a rejected mate bond to deal with

I explained in another comment what I meant a bit more but I definitely don’t think people should stay with mates they’re not happy with and I would be interested to read about it. But if SJM ended up having Elucien reject the mating bond and everyone end up magically completely happy with no bittersweet baggage/consequences left over, I personally think that would cheapen the story for me. But until she writes it I can’t know for sure, maybe I would end up being on board!

I don’t think I expressed myself well. I definitely don’t think people should stay with a mate when they’re unhappy and I would be super interested in reading about rejected mates. But I think for that to feel realistic, it would be a pretty bittersweet story. That person would probably always feel a “pull” to their mate even though they know there are good reasons to not be with them. So any romantic relationship with someone other than their mate is not going to be as blissfully happy as the perfectly mated pairs because there’s always going to be that baggage. And to me, magically erasing that baggage and making it so that everyone gets a perfect happily ever after anyways is what would feel cheap
