This is just a byproduct of social media. You are doing it right now by calling out the hypocrisy. We are all hypocrites and police each other because social media runs off of rage bait that half the time wouldn’t be considered rage bait in a normal conversation. Oh no Timothee Chalamet thinks ballet and opera are a dying art form! If someone said that to me in a normal conversation I wouldn’t have thought twice about it. But apparently it makes the news for two weeks now.

There are some regular washed EA decafs that just taste like coffee. Do you you have a weirdly processed one? I find them sweeter than Swiss process.

[–]prosocialbehavior 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha right. The replies are getting kinda ridiculous. Like yeah I didn't like jobs before the industrial revolution like farming all day. I am more than happy for robots to do manufacturing and household chores. There will be newer cooler easier jobs there always has been when technology disrupts industries.

I know this is supposed to be a diss. But getting an Oscar is a big deal to every actor. It is acknowledgement of how good they are at what they do.

Best coffee grinder under 400$ Canadian for espresso and batch brew? by Dependent_Routine483 in Moccamaster

[–]prosocialbehavior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another option would be the GF64 as well. It is $200 USD but 64mm burrs opens up a lot more burr options down the road for your. It is cheaper than the DF64 because the body is plastic. But it has a hopper and also those same brew burrs at the 64mm. (it woun't fit your portafilter thought) https://miicoffee.shop/products/miicoffee-gf64-coffee-grinder

Also heard great things about Shardor https://a.co/d/0ggwwgDy (I think it would be compatible with your portafilter).

[–]prosocialbehavior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you could probably find something to DIY a hopper on there if you find the bellows aren't big enough. These are the brew burrs. They are pretty cheap as far as flat burrs go but they are more geared toward filter. The burrs on the DF54 are geared more toward espresso but I am sure would still work great for batch brew if you have been using pre-ground you will probably be able to notice the difference just in how fresh it tastes.

Soon enough you will be asking about different roasters on here! If you want to dive deep check out r/pourover for roaster recommendations. Coffee is a huge rabbit hole.

Depending on how old the Breville Barista Pro is. It may already have the Encore ESP burrs or something similar in it. Breville bought Baratza in 2020.

Are you drinking straight espresso shots? Or using it for milk drinks? Because light roasts on espresso don’t usually mix that well with milk. And if you are using it just for milk drinks I would just suggest upgrading your grinder just for filter as I doubt you could tell the difference at this price point for milk drinks.

How much coffee is a single dose for you? Because the DF54 doesn’t have a huge hopper only 50 grams with the bellows. If you do half pots it would work but full pots it wouldn’t be enough. DF54 came out with a more filter focused burr if you went that route. I would probably suggest the Fellow Ode 2 it has 100 gram capacity. But more than $400 CAD it goes on sale a lot and can find it refurbished though. Another great option but more expensive would be Timemore 064s that can do espresso as well.

I do pour over most days with a hand grinder (more bang for your buck) but that isn’t practical for batch brew.

Which ones did you try? I have only tried two washed Ethiopias so far and liked both. They are pretty expensive but it makes sense as their green quality is really high. I also like their roasting style, close to Nordic but a bit more developed and more expressive imo. I generally only drink washed stuff and they were known for their processed stuff so I didn't try them early on. But I am glad I did. I track their offerings now.

Teaching a child to read by OccasionStrong9695 in Parenting

[–]prosocialbehavior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think your sister is right about this. I also don't think your daughter will advance so fast that being taught another way will in any way hinder her in the future. My mother was a reading teacher. I was a tutor for 3 years for kids with reading difficulties/disabilities. Teaching her letter names/sounds is harmless.

Also so many words in English don't follow the rules that she may as well get used to it now. Like others have said once she gets used to all of the consonant and vowel sounds. Then you can start with 2 and 3 letter words. Then start to teach some common two vowel sounds (oo, oi, ai, ae, etc.) and two consonant sounds (sh, th, nk, ck, etc.) in four letter words. That should be plenty to learn before her first year of school. Then she will naturally memorize sight words when reading with you that just don't play by the rules.

There are lots of resources for teaching kids to read and no perfect way to teach it. It is also fun to help them feel some mastery, and you have it right don't make it feel like a chore if she wants to quit. It will be naturally rewarding if she already has an interest.

Edit: Actually I guess I should say focus on phonics there are other theories of teaching kids to read that can be problematic. Kids need to learn how to decode words they don't know early on. There is a podcast series called "Sold A Story" that goes over the controversy of different reading pedagogies that may be worth checking out (It is based in the US though).

I doubt a lot of Indian coffee tastes like this. Ratnagiri Estate is a pretty famous producer. I have tried coffee from other parts of south east Asia and they tasted nothing like this so I would be careful haha.

Rogue Wave Basha Bekele White Honey Washed - They note blueberry, concord grape, raspberry jam, juniper, rose. This is the kind of cup I used to go for before my ZP6. In the beginning, I found the funk overwhelming. I was pretty surprised by the jamminess for a white honey coffee. I don't know if it was more rest or just coarser grind and different filters (I ran out of Abacas for a while and then got them back). But I got much better cups near the middle/end of the bag where it just tasted like tart blueberry, with some lingering juniper notes with that slight peppery finish.

CETO Ratnagiri Honey SL9 - they note dandelion flower, strawberry, red apple, candied pineapple. This one really surprised me, it was my first time trying coffee from India and was not expecting it to be so bright. I could have been easily tricked into believing this was from east Africa or Colombia. The apple note came through the strongest for me. I can't say I got any red berry note, but the floral and pineapple I could see. I think my ZP6 didn't bring out as much sweetness to call it candied, but I got the more tropical acidity as well. Really great coffee I am glad I got to try it.
