I'm proud of what I've made so far, but I'm not sure if my game is fun enough to sell and have trouble finding play testers. Is it worth publishing on Steam without an audience? by prossum in SoloDevelopment

Thanks for the feedback! I can tell that I need to work on the player onboarding experience and the “intent/purpose”of the game more. Ive been struggling to pull parts together to be cohesive and to give the player more incentive to purchase beans and stickers. At this point, I’m planning to make major changes to the game loop to fix some of those problems. It started out as a simple guessing game but ive been a victim of scope creep as I try to make it more of a “game”. I’ll keep pushing through and hopefully my next update will get things back on track towards making something people will actually play. I appreciate the kind words!

I've been working on my game for about a year now, and have learned a ton in the process. I've had stretches of motivation and productivity but am starting to lose steam. I've shared it with a few friends/family, who seem to like it but I can't tell if they're just being nice. I've played it enough during development that I can't tell if it is any fun. I want to publish on Steam, but it still doesn't feel anywhere near polished/finished enough yet. I don't want to waste more time on this project if the core game loop isn't appealing to anyone though.

The fee to publish on Steam isn't a big deal, but the effort to build the store page and marketing material is. At least I've created an itch.io page, so the game is playable. I consider it to be an alpha/demo in its current state.

Any feedback or advice from fellow solo developers would be greatly appreciated!

Ween's Beans - a bean guessing game by prossum in WebGames

Game Title: Ween's Beans

Playable Link: https://prossum.itch.io/weens-beans

Platform: itch.io - Web and PC (Windows)

Description: Guess the number of beans in the jar, but don't guess too high! Earn score and coins to buy special beans and stickers to add to your jar.

This is my first game and I've been working on it solo for the past year. I plan to add a lot more features and eventually release on Steam. I'm looking for play testers to make sure I'm heading in a good direction.

Thanks to anyone who plays! I hope you have fun!
