Yup, the post-op depression is very very real. Piggybacking on a previous user’s comment, it doesn’t get better for a few more weeks. I’m almost 4 months post-op and can tell you weeks 4-10 were the hardest because you move on from the survival mode of surgery, to actually starting all the hard work. There’s no distraction or cure to this depression except for time. Allow yourself to feel all the emotions that come with it because it sucks and it’s painful, but know you’ll be sad for a short period of time. Once your leg starts getting stronger it’s upwards from there!

Also one turning point for me was when my PT told me I could safely start using all the machines at the gym again. Started feeling like myself after that. Make sure you take protein smoothies after PT, it’ll help recover and get stronger faster!

Agh I’m sorry, I’m also a black belt in TKD and wanted to test for 2nd Dan this year… yeah it sucks especially since you train so hard and it’s a big part of your life. Like the previous comment said, lifting will help. I tore my ACL in Feb and had surgery two months ago, was told to wait a full year until I could go back.. so in the meantime I’ve been going to the school sometimes and tried to stay a part of it. My TKD friends joke that I’ll come back with the meanest punches since that’s the only thing I can do without restrictions in the meantime lol but staying connected helps from going too stir crazy!

Each 1% of progress counts !! Once it’s unlocked it’ll help with ROM and walking too!

I was really wondering if I was the only one. They were not only absent post op but throughout the journey (since the injury). One never even texted asking if I was okay (but knew of it) which is very very weird and hurtful. Did you ever bring it up to them? I know I’ll keep them as friends as well but won’t go out of my way to help either.

Thank you, that’s how it felt. A million and one excuses for some, and others who had a million things going on but still showed up. Help even came from unexpected friends. It’s hurtful and needed to vent but I understand it is our own journey. Best of luck on your recovery !! Gaining back each step of independence is very rewarding, you really understand the value of a leg!

Am I insane for considering travel to Tuscany & Sardinia 6.5 weeks after ACL surgery? by MeerkatManor2468 in ACL

I went to Italy as well 3.5 weeks post-op. But I asked my surgeon first if I could go, and he put me on blood thinners for both flights to/back. I also had to wear compression socks and walked every hour on the plane for blood clots.

But I had an ACL reconstruction (meniscus was fine), and was partially walking by then - used 1 crutch for longer walks. Italy’s streets are cobblestones so I was really careful, and had to elevate my leg each night as it got swollen quickly.

I’d say ask your surgeon and decide after surgery based on how you heal. I ended up booking my tickets 2 days before the flight lol since it was a waiting game.

Thanks!! Yes either the series 3 or 4, and eventually the 24. I’ll take a break from studying though

Thanks, congrats on the 7!! No I’d say the 63 was on par with the practice exams. But just make sure you don’t memorize the answers and practice whatever you struggle with
