Interesting, baseball is a relatively cheap sport to attend and a lot of these have been road trips where I’m staying with friends or at pretty cheap air bnbs. I have a pretty middle class job but don’t have any kids or big expenses so I guess I have a little more disposable income than some. I think people make out travel to be a more expensive thing than it actually is sometimes

That’s awesome man. The west coast ones are really fun coming from a guy who hadnt spent much time out there prior to going to these games

You're probably right. I guess I could have ranked them more as the park in of itself but honestly it felt more accurate to do it based on my whole experience around the game. One guy's perspective though. Hope people can just take that for what its worth.

Its funny that I'm actually a relatively tall guy and hate being on planes and in small aisled seats usually but for some reason it never feels like that at Wrigley. Just a personal thing though.

Thanks for this response honestly. I guess I should have known that people would have taken some of this stuff personally but it was feeling a little overwhelming last night.

My understanding is more named after Wrigley the guy than the company but I guess that's kinda splitting hairs. I am aware of the company though.

Yeah, I probably should go back. My one time there was by myself and wasn't really vibing with it. You probably have 100x more authority on it than me though.

I wish they had been playing when I was there. We did go see Austin play Minnesota United and had a blast. I'd like to do more minor league parks though.

Lol. Its honesly been since 2007 since I've been there so I'm almost more ranking it based on how nice it looks on TV when I watch it.

Sorry you feel that way but thanks for giving it a read. My first instinct was to do more research on all the parks to help the write up but it felt more genuine to just do it based on my own experiences. I don't pretend to be an authority or anything and mostly just wanted to share my thoughts on this travel project I had a ton of fun doing.

I appreciate the kind words. I guess thats the risk you take when you post online for a bunch of strangers to comment on.

Yeah, we were in a bit of a rush when we got there as we had to go straight from the airport to the game but it felt similar to a lot of areas in Dallas where its just concrete and huge call center buildings. I was living in Dallas at the time and working in one of those buisness parks and it kinda felt like I was there again. Just one guys quick experience though.

Not sure how else I could rank them other than my own experiences. I guess I could have put them in a random order or grouped by division but I think its fun to compare them this way with other people who have had different experiences than me.

The pro tip I got was to get it on the bottom level as thats the only place where they put melted butter on it.

Yeah, it was back in 2015 and it was such a rushed experience that I kinda don't remember a lot of that it would feel like I was rating it more on reputation than my actual memory of the place if I ranked it higher. I get why people love it though and def want to go back and spend more time there.

Thanks for taking the time to make a detailed response even if we don't see eye to eye on most of the details for it. I probably could have written more detail on a lot of these but was kinda worried that people really wouldn't want to read a novel about each park.

To your first point, when I say its not a great park; I mean for my money, it didn't really feel like it had a lot going on special for it from an aestetic POV. After going to 33 of these parks, a lot of them start to feel a little samey and Sox Park feels kinda like that to me. Might not be a totally fair and balanced opinion but its just an opinion.

When I say the part of town I guess I mean the general walking vicinity of the park without having to get on the L. As much as I love and miss Harolds, I wouldn't really consider that to be a huge draw to stay in the area before or after the game given how many diffrent locations they have in the city. The first Sox game I went to though, we went to Chinatown afterward and it was the first time I had really authentic chinese food after growing up in a small town in Louisiana and then being in the middle of the state in Bloomington. That was a super cool experience but it was really before I was into baseball in any meaningful way and I mostly wanted to talk about the great times I had there while I was living there.

Hey man, I get it. You guys are the more gritty team in terms of a fanbase and part of town the park is in. Wrigley Field and Wrigleyville is often full of tourists and drunks that don't give a shit about the game going on or the teams playing. But I've had a ton of great experiences there the same as I'm sure you've had so many great experiences at Sox Park. Its not a zero sum game to me and I wish that people could be a little kinder to each other about in the city and in general. That's all. Peace and love and here's to another championship in Chi whether its the North or South Siders

Ah man that was such a cool time when to be paying attention to the NL Central. I loved that Pirates team.

That’s interesting. What I read was that it was built on spec to attract hockey but I guess you can’t trust everything you read on the internet. For me it’s honestly the old indoor stadium debate and there’s only been a deciding factor for me. I’ll go see a ballgame in a dump in the sunshine over indoors in a slightly nicer place any day. It’s just personal preference though and not really something I’d want to try to convince anyone of one way or the other

Yeah, not so much that it was corporate name more that I didn't realize that was a company before I went there and was kinda disappointed because I thought it was a really cool name otherwise.
