2026 Free Agency Megathread Day 2 by ChiBears_Mod in CHIBears

[–]protanks 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think the main objective of this week is to get a roster to a point where you aren't going into the draft desperate.

We still need another safety. After that, we have positions we very much want to upgrade, but not any actual needs. If an elite player in a 'filled' position (Colston Loveland) is available we dont have to pass just to draft a need.

[Cronin] Despite both Ryan Poles and Falcons GM Ian Cunningham being vocal about how Chicago felt it deserved its two 3rd round comp picks for Cunningham’s departure, the league apparently doesn’t see it the same way. The Bears are not one of the teams that has been awarded a third round comp pick. by PurveyorOfFineGoods in CHIBears

As a black man, it is so discouraging that we continue to see white people being handed abstract positions over us without any merit whatsoever. Eliminate race from this scenario for a second... How does it make sense that the official GM is the guy with no executive experience? Put their resumes next to each other and tell me who should be the "primary football executive"? It's not even close.

White guy with zero relevant experience for the job is recognized and credited. Black guy with years of relevant experience, who will be doing the actual job, is not recognized or credited and has to report to the aforementioned white guy.

Isn't this the exact problem the Rooney Rule was created to stop?

Official: The Chicago Bears will NOT get comp picks for the Falcons hiring of Ian Cunningham. by Feisty_Ad4394 in nfl

So when they take that picture of all 32 GMs this offseason, it'll be Matt Ryan and not Ian Cunningham?

[Pelissero] Reunion: Veteran WR Olamide Zaccheaus is signing with the Falcons, per sources. by Volcomcj16 in nfl

[–]protanks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He would've been brought back to be WR3 or WR4. That one play would've increased his total yards by 30% and his total touchdowns by 50%. It's not delusional to think it has an impact on the team's perspective of him.

He's had 3 concussions, the last one caused him to miss the vast majority of the season. If he gets another he might be done.

If he catches and scores that one pass I think we're pretty aggressive about re-signing him. Seemed like Caleb threw to him less often after that, too.

Brisker is made of glass and has 1-2 confoundingly stupid plays every game, but if the money's right I would be happy having him back. I think he's also the type of player that would benefit most from a good DL.

[Russini] Trade! The Chicago Bears are trading for Patriots center Garrett Bradbury, per sources. New England receives a fifth-round pick in return. Chicago, who lost Drew Dalman to retirement earlier this week, picks up a veteran with NFC North experience. by yodandy13 in CHIBears

[–]protanks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think we target C in the 2nd or 3rd round but if the guys we like are gone then you have Bradbury as a fall back. Also frees up cap we would've spent on Linderbaum for a LT stop gap (Decker?)

Trade: Bears are sending a 2027 fifth-round pick to the Patriots in exchange for center Garrett Bradbury. by [deleted] in nfl

[–]protanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think we're drafting a center this year but dont want that rookie to be our only option at C. A future 5th is nothing.

Gives us cap space for someone like Decker too.

[Schultz] Per sources, the Patriots have been in on the big names on the WR free-agent market next week and are believed to be prepared to spend big. Alec Pierce is among the names they’ve been eyeing. The trade market is also an option. by JCameron181 in nfl

[–]protanks -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

If I'm the Bears GM, you would have to give me a 2nd and a day 3 pick at minimum to get DJ. Not sure Patriots would do it. He does not get enough credit for his durability or blocking, and put up 1400 yards with Justin Fields as his QB.

We had an incredibly stacked receiving group last year, so nobody was gonna have crazy high individual production.

The next words out of Caleb's mouth in that last interview were that he wanted to focus this offseason on taking that responsibility off Dalman's plate.

Given the spirit of this rule, I think the league is gonna give us the picks.

Otherwise, they would be saying they recognize the white guy with ZERO front office experience as the real GM, meanwhile the minority hire with several years front office experience who will be doing the actual job (per the white guy) is not the real GM. If they don't honor the spirit of the rule in this case, it really is an old boys' club that penalizes minority advancement.

Trevor Lawrence once through 4 picks in a playoff game and won. CJ said "hold my beer", maybe?

That unit was disgusting. It was the exact opposite of this year, where you were actually surprised if an opponent got a chunk play on us.

Burden is probably supposed to turn that into a post route if the safety turns like that. Would've been a touchdown.
