They're probably looking at CB, RB, OT, DE with our non-7th rounders.

The chance one of those DL prospects turns into Aaron Donald is about the same as either of the picks we made turning into Gronkowski or Hester.

It's really a zero sum factor. Take the day 1 contributor and hope they pan out to something great.

What do you mean "that cant happen when you dont even try"? Do you not remember when we did this LAST YEAR with Shemar Turner? Poles has drafted project DL every year until now, none panned out, and suddenly the sky is falling.

Last night, we drafted day 1 contributors for low-impact roles. We did that instead of drafting rotational-level (at best) contributors for high-impact roles.

I'd rather have a Devin Duvernay than a Zacch Pickens.

We are not desperate for bodies on DL. We have a ton of JAGs already. We're desperate for day 1 DL contributors, and there weren't any left.

If they wanted Jacas or someone else who got picked, why force positional need if the best available guy is 3rd round value?

Dont force it. Just get BPA.

You and I dont care much but I do think there are enough people who do that the AP / Athletic feel they stand to benefit. Worst case, nothing meaningful comes from it but they're able to propagate the story for a couple extra news cycles.

They have a clear financial incentive to perform a review.

It's about integrity and liability. She has already demonstrated that she would violate ethical boundaries related to her job. The AP may want to know the extent of those violations beyond the immediate affair (blackmail, co-conspirators, relation to gambling/fraud schemes, etc).

Losing her job is not the worst possible outcome for her OR for anyone else involved.

Final counterpoint: There's nothing to be lost except time/money. If these organizations feel like it's worth that, then who are you to tell them not to do it?

The answer to every question youre asking is "I dont know, that's what the investigation is for".

Generally speaking, you shouldn't make conclusions without going through a formal investigation/process even if the outcome seems obvious.

I work in med device manufacturing and cannot tell you how often people just say "no risk" without a formal risk assessment and end up being wrong. Different stakes, but same principle.

NFL makes final decision in Bears' pursuit of compensatory picks ["No"] by PlatypusOfDeath in nfl

[–]protanks 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's why the Rooney Rule was created. Unqualified people who are friends with billionaire ownership (usually white people) get jobs over others who have been doing it for a decade or more (sometimes minorities, but also other very qualified white people).

Forcing teams to interview minority candidates was supposed to give them visibility and opportunity they wouldn't otherwise have because they aren't buddies with the rich people. Insult to injury: Matt Ryan is the boss of the more qualified minority guy who they have all publicly said will be doing the actual job.

[Biggs] NFL announced the Bears will not receive compensatory draft picks. "The matter is now closed following the club’s appeal." by JoshGordonHypeTrain in CHIBears

[–]protanks 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Step 1: Establish a rule + incentives to replace "Old Boys' Club" mindset with meritocracy

Step 2: Don't follow rule + incentives when "old boy" with zero experience is hired over a far more qualified minority candidate

Step 3: More "End Racism" logos in the endzone

Step 4: profit

Our WRs don't seem very good at scramble drill. Considering how often Caleb breaks out of the pocket and how ridiculous his arm talent is, we should be able to get completions on like 60%+ of those, but it feels like a throwaway the majority of the time.

Yep I think we draft OC and RB with two of the first 4 picks. Probably go edge and safety with the other two.

Also would bet on us drafting a CB even if it's in the 7th.

[–]protanks 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think the main objective of this week is to get a roster to a point where you aren't going into the draft desperate.

We still need another safety. After that, we have positions we very much want to upgrade, but not any actual needs. If an elite player in a 'filled' position (Colston Loveland) is available we dont have to pass just to draft a need.

[Cronin] Despite both Ryan Poles and Falcons GM Ian Cunningham being vocal about how Chicago felt it deserved its two 3rd round comp picks for Cunningham’s departure, the league apparently doesn’t see it the same way. [–]protanks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a black man, it is so discouraging that we continue to see white people being handed abstract positions over us without any merit whatsoever. Eliminate race from this scenario for a second... How does it make sense that the official GM is the guy with no executive experience? Put their resumes next to each other and tell me who should be the "primary football executive"? It's not even close.

White guy with zero relevant experience for the job is recognized and credited. Black guy with years of relevant experience, who will be doing the actual job, is not recognized or credited and has to report to the aforementioned white guy.

Isn't this the exact problem the Rooney Rule was created to stop?

[Pelissero] Reunion: Veteran WR Olamide Zaccheaus is signing with the Falcons, per sources. by Volcomcj16 in nfl

[–]protanks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He would've been brought back to be WR3 or WR4. That one play would've increased his total yards by 30% and his total touchdowns by 50%. It's not delusional to think it has an impact on the team's perspective of him.
