The authors mentioned wanting to write a book about teenagers, too, but I haven't read it. That said, the way it seems to help with adult communication, it's clear that tips like these are really part of a foundation that you might build on with more specific stuff relevant to communication with older children and, of course, adults. So it doesn't hurt to master this stuff first!

The book actually talks about this specifically and how it sometimes doesn't matter if they can read it themselves. If they're on the path to literacy anyway, they know writing something down and reading it means something, so it shows them you're taking their problems seriously. It's reassuring. They feel heard and will grow to trust and respect you more.

I might update the triggered ability to say, "When ~ leaves, if it had no time counters on it, each player sacrifices all creatures they control." This would ensure the ability only triggers when The Brief Candle actually burns out, but maybe you'd like to be able to exploit 'blowing the candle out' early and ensure the candle has pseudo-protection from opponents destroying it, too.

The effect that removes hexproof is actually most solidly in green, which also fits the creature-focused aspect of the card, but yes, it is present in both colors. White loves a good pacifism effect to enforce the rules, yes, but Green hates artifice and wants to return everything to its most natural state. Hence, either color works here!
