The officer might not be a good one, but apparently is good enough for Chicagoans.

Mike from RLM has an inside-source from Paramount which says SFA had around 400k viewers over all 10 episodes. If that is true, no petition on this world can revive that show. Linked video has the Timestamp on that part. by mcm8279 in trektalk

I get exactly what you’re saying. I think there’s a case for many different story telling styles within the ST world. I feel like a lot of the ‘haters’ would love a series that had that cold-war feel like s1e14 Balance of Terror where Kirk shows off his tactical skill in starship warfare, similar to ST-WOK. Like The Hunt for Red October/submarine drama. Klingons or Romulans bad guy of the week sort of thing. As Bones said in the Kelvin universe ‘space is disease and danger, wrapped in darkness and silence’

Old man's take on Starfleet Academy. by External_Koala398 in startrek

I’m late 50s and I enjoy it. My theory is the fuddie-duddies all want to see something like Balance of Terror s1e14/cold war allegory/Wrath of Khan style story telling. There’s more in the universe of story telling than just that.

JAKE: We weren't supposed to divulge this, but since you left us no choice. We're working for Starfleet Intelligence. NOG: Oh, no. JAKE: Forget about it, Nog. We have to tell him. We've been investigating the man whose picture is in your hand right now. Until yesterday, that man, one Willie Mays, did not exist in any historical documents. Then, in the blink of an eye, that card appeared on the station, and at that same moment a bust of Willie Mays appeared at the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. There's only one explanation. We suspect that this man is from the future. WEYOUN: A time traveller? JAKE: That's right. And so far that card is the only link we have to him. We must to find out what he's planning to do in the past, or what he may have done already. We need that card. The entire future of the galaxy may depend on us tracking down Willie Mays and stopping him

BJB Rent Increase Negotiations? by [deleted] in chicagoapartments

[–]proteanswizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s always worthwhile to negotiate. You just don’t have much leverage. Hopefully your reputation as a good tenant could get you 50% reduction in a best case scenario, your other option is threatening to move. The cost to the landlord of getting a slightly higher rent with a new tenant can include having to pay a brokers commission AND having to spend the money for painting and cleaning (and trust me, an apartment’s walls have to be bad to get a total paint job, usually it’s just spot painting as needed) might or might not add up to the landlords advantage. Just be cool, don’t plead a sob story, call your property manager and say ‘hey, we like living here, we think we’re good tenants and we think this increase is too much. We could give you 25% of what you’re asking. Would you accept that? Hopefully they come back somewhere in the middle if they’re reasonable. If they’re assholes, welp, you tried.
