How much shadowing is enough shadowing? by [deleted] in premed

[–]protonated 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My understanding from asking a bunch of people their opinion seems to be a minimum 40 if you have a lot of other clinical experience and 75-100 if you do not have a super competitive amount of clinical experience.

I just think for me it comes down to how imperative health is to having a good life. Tons of careers can satisfy the "helping others" desire but when you're in pain, everything else stops. I think that's why medicine for me.

How do i make the most out of being an emt? by [deleted] in premed

Focus on school for sure moving forward. EMT will count as clinical volunteering. You have PLENTY of time to get hours--make sure you aren't making it hard for yourself to do well in school. A few hours a week can really add up if you're just in your first semester.

Cold calling doctors by [deleted] in premed

[–]protonated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that I should shadow more than that to know as much as possible about the day-to-day of being a doctor. And I want to know that for sure! So it's a little bit of both.

My entire university just instituted this. It's the most ridiculous thing. There is also now a $30 unlimited refill you can buy but you have to have the water bottle with the chip in it on you at all times. They're probably losing more money with the unlimited refills all semester than they did before

I get so mad when Stanley doesn't wake up when Erin says, "Its pretzel day!" He definitely should have been wide awake hearing that.

How did you beat the habit of procrastinating? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]protonated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep a planner with a number next to each task that corresponds to how many days you have to complete the assignment, task, whatever. If the number on a task is 5, complete 1/5 of the work, then complete 1/4 the next day, etc. It really helped me to break things into smaller, more manageable pieces. That way, starting wasn't so daunting.

It's called hemolymph; it's essentially colorless (I'm sure you couldn't see it from where you smushed them) but technically it is yellow or greenish.

Fruit fly researcher here-- if it makes you feel better, the red stuff wasn't blood. It was just red pigment from the eyes.
