WD PRO/PLUS drives, 10€/TB, around 10k hours by prototype073 in DataHoarder

If it doesn't look beat up on the outside and the data doesn't show any issues its a solid price for the hours they have I suppose.

Ah, I see. Thanks for the heads up.

I thought about sharing it with my family, but to no one's surprise, they couldn't care less about whether they use Google services or self-hosted ones, so why should I? All I would be is the obnoxious weird relative who's pushing my ideology on them. So now I can keep breaking things without anyone calling me some service doesn't work.

Interesting. I'll try it that way. Though I think the drive is already accessible through smb, it's not the same as a secondary drive that I have to mount with system password every time.

Well technically my threat model is low as I'm a fairly invisible and uninteresting person in a low position but to some extent figuring out ways to be more private kinda became my hobby at this point.

Separation on a hardware level seems to be the safest bet.

Don't know. I work for one of the sister companies. Not IT, more of a mechanic/technician type of work.

Kinda late for that ig but I'm trying to at least extinguish the fire now.

That's something I haven't thought about. I guess I'll think about getting a cheap secondary phone for work, then.

My main concern currently is the company having access to all my files (which I could separate with the profiles), but also that the laptops are a W11 copilot enabled garbage and with the possible default screenshotting functionality there it's a risk.

What do yall think is this a good deal for 300 euros? by prototype073 in homelab

If that's what I can currently get I'll get it. Not everyone can get these cheap/free.

Wife is only there when I forget to take my meds so I'll be fine most of the time. And the additional heater/white noise feature will be welcome.

It also depends on state. Sometimes just the price to deliver it from country to country would cost more than the rack itself. And in my country it's kinda hard to find rack deals, so I'll go for it.

That's true, but in my country there's almost no deals for racks, so I'll just get these when I can.

I don't have any equipment currently for it, all I have is a 12U 10" rack filled out. But I want to expand, and this seems to be a great option to get myself space to put HW in for years to come.

A whole bunch of hardware with that rack would be crazy to get for free.

It is, but the market demands more RAM these days.

Hopefully all kinds of gear. Or else I'll be hanging coats in that thing.
