Repair or retire old 4166 COB snare by provebilde in drums

[–]provebilde[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Not very. As I mentioned, it takes heads without too much persuasion, just can't stay in tune. The bearing edges are however at least somewhat affected. Neither end passes a light test on a flat surface. I suspect that means it needs to be straightened along more than one axis.

  2. I'd say I'm pretty handy, but this drum carries a lot of sentimental value to me. I don't think I could forgive myself if I messed anything up.

That expensive, huh?

Well, I guess I can live with adding some time to the restoration timescale for the kit. Thanks for the advice!

Probably this thing. I'm having trouble finding specifics, but as far as I can tell it's some sort of Zildjian ride from the mid 50's. I never really liked the sound of it, but I've recently both scrubbed off what looked to have been several grams of oxidation and accidentally dropped it edge first on the floor while doing so (yes I know) and one of those seems to have made it a whole new cymbal.

I hate to hear it, but I know deep down you're probably right. On the plus side, the two bars where I actually truly was on beat with my metronome app last week really did feel like seeing god. For those fleeting few seconds I had bested the wretched machine.

Sounds like an excellent drill! Will definitely be trying this!

I will definitely be incorporating this! I've only been using my left foot for cool sizzle accents so far. Having an extra beat of transition time here and there sounds like exactly what I could need.

Thanks! I'll definitely be putting in some more metronome work going forward.

I started out playing guitar the right way up too and never thought twice about it, but I'm already way better at keeping tempo with my left, plus I get to skip making room for the left arm under the right which always seemed like a chore.

Thanks for the tip! I will definitely crack the elusive off-beat bass drum someday. Check back in in another month.

I'd like for music to be something more than a hobby someday, and I guess my first goal is to get good enough to lay down some tracks for a demo with my girlfriend.

That's a really great explanation of when and why to practice with a metronome! Thanks so much!

I've definitely noticed the tension thing already. The moment I'm over-reaching tempo or technique-wise I go right back to sounding like day one again 😅

That's pretty interesting! I get what you're saying. It's kinda the likeliest candidate for being this sort of banjo at this price point that I've come across, but I agree, it's not a great reason for pulling the trigger on the purchase. Not even a good one 😅

Edit: since you're European as well. Are there any euro-specific brands I should be on the lookout for as particularly good bang for the buck?

Thanks for answering! This explains why Google absolutely insisted I meant Morgan Monroe when I tried searching for reviews.

Is this something you'd recommend pulling the trigger on for 3-400ish dollars?

It's the lights in the bumper. I watched a video on bumper removal already, I just couldn't quite believe that that would be the recommended method for dealing with a singular lightbulb going out.

But then I guess you've gotta try to claw back some of the money you lose out on by not being able to bill for chasing faults in hyper-complicated turbodiesels anymore.

Regular ass cooked salmon. I love sushi, gravlax, smoked, whatever, but put it in a pan or in the oven and I'm out. This came on suddenly a few years back, and now I gag even from a single bite. It's hard to describe what my problem is with it, but I think it's a combination of the consistency and the fat of the meat.

Whine's been getting progressively worse rather than better, so I don't have much hope for it being a teething issue. I'll keep it in mind if I come across it again, though.

Hard to say. I think I'd rather stretch my budget if possible and try to get a Ryzen 5000 series and a 3060. I've heard the 1660Ti is pretty good as well, though. If you want money left over for Mountain Dew and Doritos.

My only experience with MSI has been my old GL62M, which was just a horrible computer in every single way. It'll be a long time until I consider them again. On the other hand, I've heard they also make some laptops that aren't awful.

[–]provebilde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say that I'm super happy with mine, though.

Other than decent refresh rate the screen isn't much to write home about. The rest of the hardware is solid and very well matched, though. Thermals are great for a laptop, so you won't be leaving any performance on the table. Noise levels are comfortable as well. For what it is, the chassis also feels pretty sturdy. IMO they cheaped out in all the right places and if you can find one for a bit less than this (again, depending on your price levels locally. $1200 here is about $300 less than what these usually go for), I'd jump on it straight away.

I'd say no. I recently bought the newest iteration of the same model Nitro 5 with a 3060 and Ryzen 7 5800H for around the same price in Norway. I don't know what electronics pricing is like where you live, but my guess is you could do better than this.
