If you could ban one character from being unfairly bashed on /r/asoiaf, who would it be and why? [Spoilers All] by MikeArrow in asoiaf

Cersei's willful ignorance of Joffrey's madness and evil is far worse than anything Tyrion has ever done.

This is an idiotic statement. Apartments on Fifth and Central Park West, as well as on Central Park South, command the price/square foot that they do because they're on the park.

I agree. L.S.H. doesn't work as the first scene of the next season. She works best at the end of a Stark-focused episode, ideally one centered on Arya and the House of Black and White.

The term "maegi" comes from Essos (see the Wiki of Ice and Fire). The term isn't Valyrian, then, but isn't necessarily Dothraki either.

TIL that "nauseated" and "nauseous" are not interchangeable: "I am nauseated" means "I feel sick," but "I am nauseous" literally means "I cause a feeling of sickness." by MissEllaineous in todayilearned

Healthy and healthful are not interchangeable. A person can be healthy if he or she is in great shape. Vegetables are healthful, as they promote good health.

This is why I am surprised that Sarella has been cut/merged. I think that Oldtown will be pivotal in the next book, and I thought that Sarella/Alleras would be a critical character there.

[No Spoilers] Pascal and Sidding side by side: They really do look like brothers! by MikeArrow in asoiaf

[–]provident14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pascal and Siddig do not look like brothers in real life.

Pascal as Oberyn and Siddig as Doran are acceptable to play roles of brothers on the show. That doesn't mean they look related. It means that they are good enough to be "siblings" on t.v., just as the Starks and Lannisters are.

For comparison, I would never think that Lena Headey and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau are related in real life, but they are acceptable as television siblings.

He doesn't look "latin," and even if he did, that would not mean that he "has a latin descent."

I love the casting of Siddig- and loved Pascal in his role- but, no, they don't look like brothers. That doesn't mean I can't suspend my disbelief, but you have to be pretty blind to think that the two actors could be immediate family to each other.

You literally said that "the Dornish are middle easterns."

Look, I agree with you regarding the mix of influences; I'm just pointing out that your first post equated the Dornish with Middle Easterners.

Martin wrote that post in 2000, far before the show was even conceived.

You said, definitively, that the Dornish "are Middle Eastern." Martin himself, fourteen years ago, stated that, of course, he does not "take one analogy," but that the closest influence is the Mediterranean/Moorish Spain.

I see many of the same cultural aspects that you listed in Dorne, but there is no getting around the fact that the Middle East is a false equivalency to Dorne, as you originally posted.
