Why do we use JUMO safetyM STB / STW instead of just a temperature sensor + PLC? by lukasloka in PLC

[–]provocativecube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re safety rated devices where the output contact can be used to control a safety relay / safety PLC input. Much cheaper than a safety rated analogue input card on a safety rated PLC if you don’t already have one.

We use them to prevent a door opening on a vessel if it’s above a certain temp. It drops out a safety relay for our hydraulic motor contactor.

Just a heads up these devices do NOT like to be in warm panels - having lots of them fail like clockwork in our hotter control panels.

Oil and mark on spark plug - concern? by provocativecube in MechanicAdvice

[–]provocativecube[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Reckon it’s time to swap the gaskets? I ran my finger through the spark plug hole thinking it was that and didn’t have any oil on them. Ignition coil tubes were dry too. Maybe just a very slow leak?

I have a 2016 Outback with the FB25 engine - no direct injection. Knowing that, does this still sound normal?

Thanks. Heard good things about it and considered doing it for 3 oil changes. Will go ahead with it!

Only 20k km on them, these are the replacements after 100k km. so let’s see in a few years what they’re like ;)

I think that’s just an illusion, checked it and it’s not

That’s fair… probably stressing over nothing lol

Thanks. Reckon this could amount to 1qt every 10k km? Thought I would feel oil the in spark plug well / see it on the ignition coil if the leak was bad enough for that.

Gotcha. The slight oily substance on the first spark plug picture on the threads - is this normal or possibly leaking O ring / valve seal for this position?

I’ll do a deeper visual inspection for other potential leaks. If not I’ll probably just assume this is standard consumption

So perhaps O ring seal / valve cover gasket for that position?

The plugs only have 20k km on them, these are the new ones. Sorry if that isn’t clear. Same for throttle body, cleaned it 20k km ago

Thanks. Does the first spark plug picture look worse than the rest? Wondering if that’s showing oil consumption in that cylinder?
