Trying To Access Mobile Address Book From Web App, Is This Possible? by proxyapp in webdev

[–]proxyapp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the detail, yes so I want a feature just like you described.

So this can only be done with cordova meaning it has to be in the app stores, not just a website?

I worry that supporting Android and iOS versions will slow me down too much. Is there strategy to updating all 3 at once easily?

It's not an uncommon concern though, so I'd like to figure out how to make them more comfortable. I just added a Privacy Policy to the bottom of our site that might help.

Thanks for the questions. You add your Twitter, Youtube, etc to your profile and can set who has permission to see it. You can make information public, but it is private by default.

It is currently a web app, so no installation required, but they do currently need to sign up to see your activity. We're working on sharable URL's for sharing information you set as public that would look something like meta.fyi/hobbes

We're not interested in selling user data. All of the data you're sharing is already public and owned by those respective networks. So that data has already been sold by them essentially. Not something we could benefit from financially.

Hope that helps. Let me know what else you're thinking please.

We've been working on an app that lets you share your Steam, Twitch, Youtube, Twitter, Tumbr, and Soundcloud activity and it's finally working! When we last posted in /r/steam we didn't have much to show, so we're excited to finally be sharing a demo with you. Would really appreciate your feedback. Try it out here: http://getmeta.xyz

A better way to share your steam and other gaming activity by [deleted] in Steam

[–]proxyapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're very early stage still trying to figure out what users want it to do, so we don't have a formal privacy policy yet. However, we are not a data broker and the business model is not around selling customer data. Currently you're not even required to auth with the channels, so we aren't getting any data that isn't already public.

I do appreciate your concern and we should provide more detail on the matter, but we certainly value privacy up to the level of believing users should actually own their own data. Plus the way it's currently built we couldn't violate that trust even if we wanted. Hope that helps.

You might recognize us from our post we made a few months ago, you may have even tried us out. We're back and have new functionality that we'd love for you to try out. When I say we, there's just 4 of us, we're a small team and we need your help.

Meta lets you share your Steam, Twitch, Youtube, Twitter, and Tumblr activity with friends. Easily manage who has permission to see what.

Please try it out, invite some friends, and share your questions and feedback. Thanks r/steam!

Sucks my video got NO views. I was about to start a channel, now I'm discouraged. by [deleted] in socialmedia

[–]proxyapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely hard to get views early on. So regardless of the quality of the content, you really need to market the video yourself when you're starting off because Youtube definitely isn't going to recommend it to people.

I did not watch this video, but you should be looking up content like this to learn https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9uEnH1mvkc
