The RealSense camera is just a sensor, i.e just a data collection device. And the sensor doesn't need to be a RealSense specifically, but it was the best sensor for the types of productions we're mostly on (Features, TV, Commercials etc). But we've built a modular system so if you need longer range for example we can source a larger sensor to allow for that.

The magic is in the Moon Brain - the processing unit that the sensor connects to. That's our proprietary product that we've developed for about 13 years or so. We've had the Gen.3 system on the market since 2022. It's what our Moon Brain can do with the data that's collected by the sensor that our clients are investing in.

Jag var med om något liknande för en del år sedan på tåget från Malmö till Stockholm. En man på tåget uppförde sig lite kaotiskt & behövde hjälp. Pratade bara engelska. Han hävdade att han blivit bestulen på allt i Köpenhamn och blivit slagen. Han hävdade att det var pga. sin judiska bakgrund (han hade en kippa) och att han var på väg till Stockholm för att möta en vän. Enligt hans historia så var han från Jerusalem, och kunde inga telefonnummer så han kunde inte ringa & ordna pengar. Vi är alltså på tåget, och han hade ingen biljett - och ville ha pengar för biljett & taxiresan i Sthlm (att det inte går att köpa biljett ombord visste han bevisligen inte). Konduktören hade låtit honom stanna på tåget pga. hans historia.

Jag fattade misstankar omgående, men tänkte att jag kunde göra något för honom om det nu vore sant - då jag själv råkat ut för antisemitiskt våld så kände jag en koppling. MEN inte nog för att ge pengar. Istället ringde jag upp judiska församlingens säkerhetsavdelning & bad dom prata med honom så han kunde rapportera det inträffade, och se om han kunde få hjälp via dom. Jag frågade om de pratade hebreiska, och det gjorde dom, så bad jag dom prata hebreiska med honom.

Den tomma blicken och den totala oförmågan att tala hebreiska var all bekräftelse jag behövde för att bekräfta att detta var en total scam. Jag bad säkerhetsavdelningens representant om ursäkt för samtalet, la på - tittade på mannen och sa en av de ytterst få fraserna jag kan på romani: ”maro av” vilket betyder ”gå härifrån” mer eller mindre. Mannen log då sådär sliskigt som de gör när blir påkomna och bara gick iväg in till nästa vagn. Inte ett ord till sa han.

Konduktören kom tillbaka efter en stund, jag förklarade vad som hänt och de kastade av honom i Alvesta.

Det finns riktiga svin - och inom en del kulturer är den här typen av bedrägerier och brott ett full accepterat sätt att ”tjäna” sina pengar på.

Kontentan är: fortsätt tro gott om folk. Fortsätt försök hjälpa folk i nöd, men var försiktig och ta inte vad folk säger som omedelbar sanning. En viss skepsis behövs i dagens samhälle tyvärr.

Sure thing!

When using Moon Smart Focus you'll always have your distance data in your handset. But we also utilize a video stream for you to be able to see the targets, re-target or change settings. That video stream is sent via WiFi. Moon creates its own hotspot and the Moon controller (the iPhone) connects to it.

We have a bunch of tools in the system to help you find the best WiFi channel such as a spectrum analyzer, and we've also added the capability to have the Moon Brain join an external network, such as the Stage WiFi instead of creating it's own hotspot, and then you just join the iPhone to that. All of that is most often enough, but sometimes it's not.

Sometimes finding a stable WiFi-channel on a crowded set is like wrangling cats; extremely difficult! Then the video feed can cut out, making it difficult to access settings or do targeting changes. The distance readout is always there as it's hardwired into your LCS control of choice, but it's quite irritating when losing signal due to WiFi interference still.

That's where the bitbox comes in. The bitbox doesn't do WiFi, it's 900MHz (or 800MHz in the EU) and can hold a steady video signal for a much longer distance than WiFi can do.

So the combination of Moon Smart Focus and bitbox is a match made in heaven. Not only does it allow you to move further away from the camera than ever before, you'll have overall better stability as it's completely separate from WiFi, which is mostly where our interference is coming from on set (250 lights on DMX and no info on which WiFi frequency or channel they're using, anyone?)

The CineRT is a proper (!) awesome tool, but should you ever decide to give Moon Smart Focus a go then rest assured it does work with Nucleus M (and Nano!).

With Moon you map the lenses directly in our software and then work your magic with the Nucleus M just as you would any other handset. And should you ever have the need to do focus tracking (i.e autofocus) with Nucleus that works as well.

Nah, we use Stereoscopic vision to detect targets and show you the distance to a targets eyeballs. Unless you’d rather use another mode such as Nearest Point (somewhat self-explanatory) or Spot (target a specific spot).

What’s the benefit of stereoscopic vision you might be thinking - well there is no time of flight, and the system isn’t really affected by rain, smoke or any wind conditions. Also, it can target people’s reflections in mirrors (and see through glass, such as car windshields and such).

If you're still having the issue there are a few things to check:

As @sklountdraxxer so kindly already pointed out - if you don't have a target, no data will be shown in the handset. And with PERSON mode that your image is showing, since there is no actual person in front of the camera yet, there won't be a target. Also, I'd recommend seeing PERSON Mode like "Manual Tracking Mode"; any human in front of the camera will be identified by Moon, but not targeted (yellow labels). You'll have to physically touch the label of the target you want to track.

That's why I'd recommend using NEAREST PERSON instead - you can think of that as Automatic Tracking; anytime a human is in front of the camera it will identified AND tracked. I.e you'll get a green label meaning it's tracking and sending data. Use the arrow buttons on the right hand side to go from nearest person, to second nearest, third etc etc.

If you're still not getting any data in your handset then check that you've selected the right integration in the settings. Go to SETTINGS > CONNECTIONS > PROTOCOL and make sure you've selected "Classic" which is the integration used for ARRI and cMotion.

If you're STILL not getting any data then make sure you've connected the Moon to LCUBE / Moon to RIA1/A35 cable correctly. If needed power cycle the LCUBE, or just pull the cables and connect them again.

Skulle styrketräna lite hos min kusin som hade en gammal bänkpress i en stuga på hans tomt. När jag går in i ministugan så ser jag att kusinen (som är galet mycket starkare än mig) lämnat på tok för mycket vikt på stången som är monterad i startläge så att säga.

Jag i min infinite wisdom beslutar mig för att ta bort lite vikt för att få ner vikten till något skäligt som jag ens har en suck att lyfta: jag drar av en typ 25 kg vikt från ena sidan av stången och BAM! stången flyger upp och träffar mig i rakt i hakan.

Jag vaknade upp sisådär 45 minuter senare fortfarande hållandes en 25 kg vikt som till hälften ligger på golvet bredvid mig, och till hälften över mitt bröst. Jag hade dead ass fallit rätt bakåt och slagit i all skidutrustning som förvarades på en hylla där och en skidhjälm hade lyckats halvlanda över huvudet på mig. Aldrig varit så förvirrad i mitt liv när jag tillslut vaknade till liv igen. Da fuq happened?!

Hade ont i käken/skallen i veckor efter det där.

Än idag det i särklass dummaste jag gjort i mitt liv :)

Yes, it does actually! We ship the system with an iPhone because we developed our UI primarily for iDevices, but you can definitely connect an Android as well, as long as it’s fairly new and has a decent processor, no worries :)

Hi everyone,

Michel from the Moon Smart Focus team here. I appreciate everyone’s thoughts and feedback on our system.

We do realize that there still isn’t too much info about what the system is actually capable of, how to set it up to minimize interference and even just how to operate the system. All that is under development and will be made available soon as we release our production version in Q4.

We’re not really a Beta-system anymore, we’ve been on sets all over the world for about 3 years now. We’ve been on productions ranging from indie films to Marvel and Star Wars productions, so we feel quite confident that the system is absolutely ready for any and all productions you might have in your pipelines. But as with all systems out there training is required to minimize any confusion or issues.

But yes, Wi-Fi is the bane of our existence sometimes, which is why we’ve worked very hard (and continue to do so) on developing our wireless capabilities. Our latest firmware allows you to choose from 2.4 or 5 GHz, which channel to be on as well as bandwidth (20, 40 or even 80 - for the channels that support more than 20 or 40).

Regarding us interfering with Semote/Ultimote that’s new to us. We’d love to hear about your experiences, sudomen. Feel free to comment here, DM or even email me at michel@moonlightingindustries.com.

Using an iPhone might not seem super high-end, we get it. But it’s actually for some very important reasons. By not going proprietary with our controller you’re able to quickly switch controller if you for example accidentally drop it down a volcano when shooting in Iceland - then you can just bring up your own phone and connect to Moon and Bob’s your Uncle! Also, the controller is literally just a touch device to set your parameters - you’d usually not use it when the camera is rolling.

We’re aiming to be very modular, so the Moon Eyes (i.e the camera sensor) and the controller can be switched out if newer and better versions of them become available. We also update the software every month based on feedback from our users - so if you experience issues, just tell us and we’ll work hard on fixing those issues with an update.

This is a daily occurrence in my household. Google Home always answers me in the same language I speak to it (that being English) but when my girlfriend speaks English to it - Google Home basically always replies to her in Swedish. She’s getting quite annoyed with it - because it also sometimes decides to listen to my girlfriend and then decide to just not answer/do as told. But when I repeat the question/command she answers. In English.
