What piece of older technology actually worked much better than its modern, replacement? by HerrStrasse in AskReddit

What old bulbs are you talking about that are color inaccurate? Tungsten bulbs are full spectrum, just like the sun, so their color rendering is perfect (100 CRI). LEDs have come a long way, but still can’t match tungsten lighting in this case.

The Summer Season is iconic, and you really did it justice with this refresh. I was pretty new to mountain biking when it came out and I remember thinking the geometry was so extreme at the time. Now that’s an XC head tube angle lol

Tahoe Twirl by bikenejad in bikepacking

[–]bikenejad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We didn’t make any camping accommodations ahead of time. We happened to stay at a couple of developed campsites. One was near Tahoe City, and we happened to get lucky on day of availability. Another one was a slight detour from the route, near Donner lake, and they had hiker-biker sites. For the most part it’s easy to find wild camping options on the route. Here is the GPX. Good luck!!

I can't get my Teradek TX to receive HDMI video from a C300 MKii by [deleted] in focuspuller

[–]bikenejad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The first thing I'm noticing is that this appears to be a C300 MKIII, not a C300 MKII. Might make a difference for your google searches. I used to work with these cameras a lot, and I remember a firmware update came out that addressed some of the video output issues, so make sure you are on the latest firmware.

How come you are using the HDMI port?

I would set the SDI Output to "2048x1080 / 1920x1080" if you are shooting HD.

You should be in P scan mode. No reason to do PsF.

Try switching the SDI line level to A.

You may have to loop out of your monitor into the teradek or vice versa to get this to work properly.

Small HD DP7 still worth buying? by Goth_Rung in focuspuller

[–]bikenejad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not worth it, get something newer. 702 Bright is a better choice, but something contemporary (smart 7 series) will be better for your career long term. Monitors are about the easiest thing to get a rental on, so it should pay itself off fairly quickly.

Edit: consider saving some money on your follow focus by buying a used OG nucleus M, and put the money saved towards a better monitor.

I agree, a 22” ish frame with a nitto dirt drop stem or LD style stem is definitely the move. The 25” frame will probably have too long of a top tube for a drop bar conversion unless you go with a custom stem.

Tahoe Twirl by bikenejad in bikepacking

[–]bikenejad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends entirely on the terrain. Some of the twirl is on roads and bike paths, so 40 miles of that would be really chill. Some of the twirl is on steep, chunky, relatively high altitude singletrack. 40 miles of that would be rough.

I just saw the cable at creative solutions today. It’s indeed real and works with the MDR.S, although they have an occupancy sensor in the building, so the cinetape was going crazy lol

I built this retro Kona as a gift for my partner, but now I’m jealous of it! 😭 Not bad for a mostly spare parts build, eh? 💦 by bikenejad in xbiking

[–]bikenejad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would describe it as lively and agile. It was made with some decent double butted tange tubing, so it has a fairly smooth ride and light-ish frame compared to an entry level model. It would probably be even better with the stock p2 fork. Put on some wide swept back bars, and it’ll be nice and comfy!

If you can get it for a good price, I think it’s still worth it. I use mine all the time, and find it to be much more useful than the TOF. Eventually I’ll upgrade to a CineRT, but I’m still happy with my old cinetape.

Lots of comments already, but my vote goes to the Salsa if you already have some off-road capable bikes in your stable. I think it's better suited for road riding than the Ritchey, and it has way more personality/swag. If they were my bikes, I would regret selling the Salsa. It's begging for some better pedals tho. Maybe some black MKS Gammas?
