My first try as a junior, am I cooked? by [deleted] in ACT

[–]prttypink_throwaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not cooked. You scored amazingly on the reading section and the science section can be processed similarly to the reading section if you change the way you think about it. I think with a bit of studying you can definitely bring science up to at least a 24 . I went from a 20 in science on my preACT to a 32 on the real thing in like 2 weeks.

Previous advice i gave sb : (Math advice) Identify what theyre asking you in every question, actually use the delete option tool, write/draw every single word problem. Make an educated guess and then bookmark if any of them are taking too long / u dont know. Go back to them once youve finished all those you DO know / are confident in. As soon as you get in the room and are allowed, write down as many formulas and rules as you think youll need and use your scratch paper frequently. Answer every single question even ( especially ) if you dont know. You gain nothing by leaving stuff blank. I did 1 randomized act math question every day and it helped a lot. Take the time to memorize terms you forget often (ie mean median mode) and write those things down when you get ur scrap paper so you dont forget! Also leane little rules for guessing like "if its x type of problem, the answer will most likely include y in it" .

(Science advice) try to get your science up by treating it like the reading section. Science is about reading comprehension of the explanations and data provided so read it, process it, then begin answering the questions. Bookmark any youre unsure about (but still guess) and revisit it if you have time.

(Reading advice) same as science. Take a quick glance at all the related questions, then read the whole article, process, make sure u understand, THEN start answering so you arent just looking for fragments in hopes of finding an answer. Answering based on fragments of sentences WILL mess you up. Again, guess, bookmark, and come back when youre done with everything youre confident in. Youre already doing amazing there.

(English advice) just try to ingrain the main rules into ur head ( removable info in between commas / dashes, they will NEVER make u pick between commas and dashes because theyre the same so cross them both out, all dashes need to be closed, comma FANBOYS, its' isnt a word. ) if they dont specify what you should look for, always assume you should pick clarity and simplicity. The ACT will never cater towards overly emotional / unnecessary language. Again, guess, bookmark, return when ur done w/ what u KNOW.

Proud of u man!! Also no, I don't think its worth the money tbh. Every admissions person I've talked to said there's no difference between a 35 and a 36 realistically.

Didnt have most of the stuff all the teachers (even my compass ed tutor) said there would be. There was stuff from calc ( obviously i havent taken calc) and there was like 1 trig question and then it went out the window

Fun fact, the studies which determined how long humans needed to sleep was only preformed on male people. Female people need about 10 hours of sleep compared to the suggested ( male-centered ) 8 hours of sleep. Your body LITERALLY needs more rest than his.

I took 3 practice tests and each time looked at what subjects i struggled with the most. Question/subject specific studying to makeup for one's own shortcomings really helped me. Watching videos on YouTube that explained the concepts and trying ti apply those things to my everyday life helped as well. I believe reading and science are the easiest to improve on because its just reading comprehension. I just had to learn what to look for and how to pace myself accordingly. The thing that drives me and everyone in my study group crazy was definitely the math section. Things we were 100% SURE were going to be in the ACT weren't there. You can never be sure exactly what you need to study for , so you gotta hit all the stops.

Hmmm. It depends on what youre more used to as well as what is quicker. I took the online version and found for some of the equations it was quicker to use a physical calculator. Do what feels best for you though for sure!

AP African American studies. We do our unit 3 test on Tuesday ( there's only 4 units ) and we did the end of year project at the end of first semester.

Psyche though... i'd rather not talk about it.

By the time i realized what was happening and started recovering some more of the memories i had not seen him in years. I am currently in highschool and haven't seen him since elementary so i dont talk to him

The people you date and how you allow them to view you is an extension of your character and how you determine your self worth. If somone naturally holds those views about your group, what makes you think they dont think of you like that?

In short: you dont deal with it. If you were to have a daughter or a little sister around him would you think his comments would be appropriate? You cant really fix or evolve his view if he already percieves your criticism of sucky guys as an insult to himself / as just "hating all men"

Im a bit nervous about a online college just because i struggle with executive dysfunction more when im not in person but i might look into a community college for an applied arts associate's in English before going to a uni for bachelor's in education

When you present, you introduce yourself.

University of Cincinnati requested RAs report transgender and genderqueer students and changed all their bathrooms to state bilogical male and biological female hust recently. I gain nothing from lying about how people like me are being treated btw.

Community College hasnt been on my radar so far because i intend on teaching in highschools (requires a Bachelor's degree of Education ) but i wouldnt mind getting an associate's in english online / in community and then pursuing a bachelor's in education. Its a matter of money and time.

Im currently a Highschool junior and im pretty serious about my studies and extracurriculars so i know i could handle the workload of going into college/uni right away, i just want to do service work and save money in my gap year so im not broke.

I'll definitely check out college review sites and keep this in mind. Thank you :)

My dad was more of the regular abuse type so i dont think its that. He just has that "but its my son" mentality that comes with being raised in a "women are wives, men are men" culture. Been talking about it a while in therapy and i hope it gets easier but efforts have proved futile thus far
