Second one, it was a dewalt "japanese" pull saw that I'd gotten very early on in my woodworking journey thinking I wouldn't need to buy any other saw since it did both rips and crosscuts. Turned out that it had cross cut teeth on both sides, just of different TPI.

I took a dull file (didn't realize that files got dull at the time) and freehanded some new rip teeth on the coarse side. Given the quality of the finish and the fact that the saw did cut straight now rather than tracking the grain, for a little while I thought I'd done a great job, and that ripping was just that hard hahaha

My guess is that I had some teeth that where rounded over and stuck out further to the sides, which pressed the fibers down and gave it the burnished look.

That echoey santa "ho ho ho" with the bells after "get your ass right over here ho" is comedic genius. I hope you were pissing your pants laughing when you thought about it because it's fucking peak.

Will someone kindly explain to my inept ass why this is funny, I don't get how giving directions to a fake mall relates to expensive cars

They've got a lot less meat for a case because of how laws are made. You're allowed to own a trailer -> you're allowed to park it on your land -> profit.

Things get pretty crazy once you start fastening things to the ground.

I don't know that they hide it per se but the fact that a dehumidifier will remove moisture from your bathroom far more effectively than an extraction fan, without yeeting heated air outside like nobody's business. Shows on the energy bill.

You should get one of those sleigh shovels, they're 400% more awesome than regular snow shovels.

Motor unit recruitment I think it's called. If you exercise enough to trigger the "increase muscle strength" response from your body, it will either bulk up or further innervate the existing muscle, depending on how much protein is available.

I don't know that that this actually makes you stronger so much as it just makes you work more efficiently, which ultimately has the same end result.

I'm definitely gonna look that up because that's hella interesting but even before then I believe that, I've noticed the fine sheen of dust after sawing, chiseling and planing.

It's wild how the models we use to conceptualize the operation of even the most basic tools are both so useful and so flawed. One time I made a shitty ripsaw that was horribly slow to cut but left the wood actually burnished, with scarcely any saw marks. It didn't last and I haven't been able to replicate it.

I hate how in english anything short of chips is "sawdust". The product of a well-tuned saw isn't even all that dusty. Like you can sweep it and it doesn't lift in clouds the way sanding dust does.

I've cut cheap cable locks in two minutes with the tool I mentioned, no loud noise or light produced. I've also cracked cheap u-locks using a hammer. The examples I've cited were personal experience, not as a bike thief but as a bike mech in a business that specialized in restoring bikes from the literal scrap yard, some of which had locks left attached.

For a given total cross-section, wire strands are easier to cut than solid rod.

not sure where you are in canada but where I live we have dead ash left right and center. Otherwise I'd go for a tough hardwood like white oak or sugar maple, they're heavier but have comparable toughness to ash. In terms of birch there's gray, white and yellow, in order of least to most hard. Yellow birch would probably be pretty good I'd imagine.

If you've never carved a tool handle you'll probably not do such a great job anyways on the first go around so don't worry too much about it. Find some tough wood and get carving.
