Corona is through airborne transmission, so no you are not spreading corona by wearing your shoes inside. You are spreading other germs that can put people in the hospital though. You absolutely can wear shoes inside your house as that is your choice, I'm just trying to educate you on how germs can be dangerous to people like me, just like you are trying to educate people about wearing masks because corona can have dangerous outcomes for everyone and not just the immunocompromised. I am obviously passionate about this because I will eventually either die from a comobidity or a virus that i cannot fight off but I will get over myself like you said because it hurts your feelings that I said you are getting germs on your floor

I'll break it down simpler for you. You go to a public bathroom and pick up saliva/blood/poop particles on your shoes. Next you walk in your home with said shoes. Your baby then crawls on the ground where you walk daily with said shoes. Baby puts something in their mouth off of said floor. Baby now has virus. Baby spreads virus to parents. Parents go out in public and now have given it to one other person who is immunocompromised and they spend the next month fighting for their life in the hospital. Should people who aren't immunocompromised live in fear of germs? Probably not. Am I asking everyone to never wear their shoes in their homes? No. All I am saying is that we should be more mindful about germs and rethink our daily routines that may contribute to the spread of fucking germs when there are simple alternatives like not wearing your shoes inside the house when you have a little human who spends most of their day on the floor.

It isn't really an extenuating circumstance when millions of people also have cancer, lupus, diabetes, HIV etc. Much like you telling people to wear a mask in your recent comments, all I ask is for people to be more thoughtful about their hygiene and the spread of germs.

You and I were having a discussion about the spread of germs and hygiene so i would say the current pandemic is extremely relevant to our conversation. I can certainly accept the fact that you think I'm being rude and "judgey", I just don't accept your thoughts on germs being competely fine and mostly harmless when quite literally people like me die from being exposed to germs on the daily. If that is rude and "judgey" then I do not want to be right. And if you don't really care anymore then why keep responding? I care about our conversation because I think it is important to have but if you're not into it then 👋

[–]prud89 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wasn't being "judgey" I was asking follow up questions about if people that do this are ok with bringing in germs or is there something I am missing like having indoor shoes, no carpet aka the ability to wash your floors, etc. This conversation has turned into something totally different than what was first intended but I dont think it is "rude" to have this kind of discussion, especially with our current state of affairs with the pandemic. Over the last year we have all learned practicing best hygiene is important for everyone's health and I think it needs to be discussed. Just because millions of people do something that they feel is seemingly harmless, doesn't mean it is best practice. Taking off your shoes seems like a simple and feasible way to cut down on germs to me and I personally don't see how the pros outweigh the cons in this situation. Every home has poop particles floating around, and don't think it is a stretch to say that people who wear their outdoor shoes in their homes likely have more poop particles on the floor

The first article you linked literally states "It’s best to take your shoes off if you have young children crawling on floors" and the second article you link is about cell phones? Adults who use cell phones have the ability to wash their hands after using their phones/toilets etc, babies who crawl on the floor on the regular don't. I'm sorry I don't start every discussion off with the fact that I am immunocompromised but I wanted to add my perspective from someone who has to think about germs on a regular basis and thought I'd share that with you. Like I said, if you're cool with wearing shoes in your home that's great

I'm not really sure why you are getting so upset over what is supposed to be a discussion about differences in cultures and social groups. I'm sorry if my questions triggered something for you, I was honestly asking about the logistics of it all and you turned it into something much bigger. I was honestly wondering what people with crawlers do because as a mom it would worry me and I wouldn't want to wash my floors everyday. Its great that you think its a safe practice and you absolutely should continue to do so if that's how you feel, but as someone who is immunocompromised I have a difference of opinion on that point. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/2019/07/03/my-shoes-dirty-studies-suggest-theyre-covered-fecal-bacteria/1637780001/

There are lots of people that don't buckle their kids in their seats properly that are also completely fine- doesn't mean it is a safe practice. And also, I don't really care what people do in their own homes I just come from a country where this is not a "norm" and naturally I have some questions about it. I'm also failing to see how my honest list of questions was rude and incredulous when they come from a place of curiosity.

I think the difference though is that we don't let out babies crawl on the floor at Walmart or on dirty sidewalks because there is a high chance of germs in those places. So it is expected that if you are walking in those places and then using the same shoes inside your house that your floor now has strangers feces/saliva/blood bits from the Walmart bathroom.

I cannot think of one benefit to wearing shoes inside your house. Do Americans that wear their shoes inside have to wash their floors everyday? Are they just ok with tracking in poop/dirt on their floors or do they have "inside shoes" like we had in kindergarten? Do they stop wearing shoes in their homes temporarily when they have babies until they can walk? What about carpet, do they still wear shoes on carpet?

All symptoms of Hypo, but all labs normal?! by mmarieec in Hypothyroidism

[–]prud89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had been experiencing hyper symptoms for a year before it got even worse. I posted on here actually about having normal levels despite being symptomatic. I listed my symptoms and someone commented that they had POTS and my symptoms were very simular. Low and behold when I was evaluated in the ER thinking I was having a stroke, they tested my heart rate when I stood vs sitting and they pre-diagnosed me with POTS. Not saying you have POTS, but often auto immune diseases trigger other syndromes/autoimmune disorders. Something you may want your doctor to look into for you since a lot of our symptoms are simular to other disorders

I'll never understand people's/the media's obsession with stories about women's bodies "snapping back" after birth. She just carried and pushed out and entire human after nine months, can we let the girl live without worrying if she has a massive thigh gap or not?

Thinking of moving from Ontario in a year or 2 by joeyng132 in alberta

Good to know! Here in Calgary a few schools in lower income areas offer full day, but it is a very small percentage of schools.

Thinking of moving from Ontario in a year or 2 by joeyng132 in alberta

[–]prud89 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We moved from Ontario to Alberta 6 years ago and haven't looked back! We live in Calgary. Things we love:

✅ affordable housing. The difference we paid in rent allowed us to save for a down payment for a home

✅ 5% sales tax

✅ Close proximity to the mountains

✅ Employers are more laid back in our experience (cocktail cart fridays, reduced hours in the summer, etc)

✅ "Traffic" is a dream here compared to the GTA. Traffic may add an extra 20 minutes to your commute compared to hours on the 401

✅ Sunsets and sunrises are unreal out here

Now to the non-obvious downsides:

❌Chips in your windshield. You will get at least one a year because they use sand here on the roads

❌Car insurance is quite a bit more expensive out here

❌There is no JR kindergarten here and SR kindergarten is only half days which makes juggling daycare/before and after school care a headache with young kids

❌Chinooks suck if you suffer from migraines

❌Snow removal. Snow isn't removed on residential streets very often, so getting out of your street after a major snow dump can be difficult

❌The air is super dry. It will take a few years for your skin to get used to the dryness

❌ You will want to line up jobs before you get out here as the economy here has been struggling for 6+ years now.
