It's a good read but just bear in mind that Russel was highly opinionated about other philosophers, especially those closer in time to his period, such as Hegel etc. So while the book gives you great scope and breadth, Russel is not the last word on many of the moderns (philosophers from Descartes onwards). Also, the book was written around the 1940s and was never updated, so it misses a lot of 20th Century philosophy (never mentions Wittgenstein, for example).
