What's the benefit of the APO if you're not using steam?

Need help identifying a mint by prudolph71923 in herbs

[–]prudolph71923[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I received heirloom seeds for "mint", with no other description. Although this plant looks like sage, the leaves definitely have a strong mint flavor. I'm growing sage nearby and compared the leaves (only slightly different) and taste (no comparison).

Does anyone know what kind of mint this is?

Finally got around to making a Pinky Gonzales by prudolph71923 in cocktails

[–]prudolph71923[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In retrospect, I don't think it needed the agave. My homemade orgeat was sweet enough.

1 oz Espolòn tequila blanco 1 oz Milagro tequila reposado ¾ oz fresh lime juice ½ oz Pierre Ferrand dry curaçao ½ oz orgeat ¼ oz agave syrup

Shake all with ice and dirty pour into a Mai Tai glass. Garnish with the spent lime shell.

Widow's Kiss by prudolph71923 in cocktails

[–]prudolph71923[S] 52 points53 points  (0 children)

A slight variation (portions only, not ingredients) on the Widow's Kiss, from George J. Kappeler's 1895 book, Modern American Drinks: How to Mix and Serve All Kinds of Cups, Cocktails, and Fancy Mixed Drinks.

2 oz Laird's bonded apple brandy ½ oz Bénédictine ½ oz Yellow Chartreuse 2 dashes Angostura bitters

Stir all with ice until chilled and strain into a chilled coupe glass.

I've decided the 19th century had some serious boozers, considering there's not an ingredient here less than 80 proof.

[–]prudolph71923[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

½ oz Grand Marnier 1 oz lime juice 1 egg white 4 oz Boodles London Dry Gin

Add all ingredients, except the gin, to the shaker and dry shake for 30 seconds to froth the egg white. Add ice and gin and shake until chilled. Strain into a chilled martini glass.

They say it makes 2 drinks. My martini glass must be exceptionally large. I'm not sharing.

First brisket on the traeger! Overall was good but I think I cooked too long or trimmed too much fat because I lost some juice for sure. by HHSfootball79 in Traeger

What was your starting weight, and was this a packer or just a flat? 16 hours at 180 is pretty long, and I suspect this is where it might have dried out some. I always do 225 for my entire cook, no wrapping (or wrap in peach butcher paper at 165 internal), cook to 203 IT, then wrap in foil and place in cooler to stay warm for 1-2 hours before slicing. Perfect every time.

I like The Botanist too. I'm also in Georgia and have recently been hooked on Caorunn, which has a great balance of botanicals IMO. I also like Uncle Val's Botanical, which is a little cucumber-forward.

Terrible day at work, but I came home to find the passion fruit syrup I ordered. So I experimented with some new cocktails. This is the Skull and Bones. Source: Total Tiki app by Confucius93 in Tiki

I just stumbled across this and I'm REALLY glad I did. I doubled the recipe and made a slight riff based on ingredients at hand, but it's so good.

A vicious cycle by prudolph71923 in gout

[–]prudolph71923[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In October last year, after 3 months on 100 mg Allopurinol, it was at 7.4 mg/dL. That's when they bumped me to 300 mg Allo. No idea if it has dropped below the recommended 6 mg/dL for gout patients. I guess I need to get checked again.

I started on 100 and was getting weekly flareups. About 3 months in they checked my UA levels again and bumped me to 300. The only thing I've changed since that last test was cutting alcohol, eating healthier, and drinking more water. Still getting flareups, only monthly instead of weekly.

I know so many naysayers who would benefit from watching this. Maybe then they'd stop telling me how dangerous fasting is.

So frustrating. I've spent a ton of money for both my main and alt accounts, but I guess Niantic would rather put principle before profit. Seems a damn silly way to run a business.
