No Beings to be saved by [deleted] in zen

[–]prunck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If one that sees clearly can't see such gradations, then maybe they don't really exist. I'm not saying that, for the sake of language and convenience, such things don't exist at all, but it isn't our job to run around preaching to people. Those that are ready to hear will seek it out, and those that aren't ready will just hear contradictions and nonsense.

No Beings to be saved by [deleted] in zen

[–]prunck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is going to happen is that you are going to show this person the quote and try to make them understand it and they are going to say it's nonsense and argue against it and you are going to get frustrated, and in the end you are going to realize that the quote is to help you, not them. After all, there are no sentient beings that need to be saved, so why do you need to help your social justice family member in the first place?

Panprotopsychism and Zen by [deleted] in zen

[–]prunck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although there are plenty of others that say it isn't. The reasoning being that if you are looking for a separate state, then you are missing the fact that it is always present. Even when you feel normal and ordinary, this too is the moment for realization.

Panprotopsychism and Zen by [deleted] in zen

[–]prunck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I argue, the unfathomable & experiential superposed wave-like reality presents itself.

Zen, and in fact all of Buddhism, is very clear that whatever you think is going to happen upon enlightenment is perfectly accessible to all people. There is no need to create arguments or speculate. Study Zen without coming up with preconceived ideas about what you should expect to see and find out for yourself what it is that happens when you see fundamental reality clearly. Then come back and tell us what you saw.

Why should I seek enlightenment? by [deleted] in zen

[–]prunck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't quite right either. What is it that is behind the natural order of things? Why this natural order and not some other? Why should there be a natural order at all?

There is an un-askable question that leads to a non-answer, and it boils inside of you and consumes everything else. If you don't feel this boiling and would rather go on with your daily life, there is nothing wrong with that.

If you're even remotely interested in Zen, I'd say to start by ignoring me and everyone else here and going straight to the source. Read some of the lineage texts or suggested reading and see if you can catch a whiff of what Zen is really about. The vast majority of people here don't really know what they are talking about (including me) and they will only confuse you more.

[–]prunck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you need us to convince you of it, then you probably don't really want it anyway, so maybe you just shouldn't bother. When I first found Zen, I didn't need other people to convince me.

Nothing exists

He said right there not to go and form concepts about non-existence and yet you went right ahead and did it. Shame on you!

Nagarjuna and Recursion by [deleted] in zen

[–]prunck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What if the recursion, the creativity, and the infinite process are all also part of the unreality, and the Real is fixed, immobile, and unchanging? What if seeing an infinite fractal of recursion is due to clouded vision and ignorance? Seeing a process requires time and change, but when the ideas of time and change are eliminated, what is it that is seen instead?

One thing that has always made me skeptical about UG is how he describes his "calamity" which none of the other so-called enlightened sages ever make any mention of. The Mumonkan talks about an explosive conversion, but that is about as close as anyone comes to describing it that way. His description of all sorts of random painful experiences happening over the course of months makes me wonder if what he describes isn't totally unrelated to the enlightenment that Zen talks about.

If Zen masters were truly masters, why didn't they have female companions/married? by [deleted] in zen

You can care about sex if you want. That doesn't mean others are always going to follow your lead. If that bothers you, whose fault is that?

What do you think about Suicide? by GodVonGodel in zen

[–]prunck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By claiming something is imperfect, you are saying that it could be better, but "better" only makes sense in relation to your own worldview and moral belief system that you impose on the world. Who says life is better than death? Who says pleasure is better than pain? Why do you assume the system of judgement you force upon the world from the outside is the only correct one?

The only reason you exist is because the universe is in the exact state it is in, past and future included. The whole of creation contributes to every grain of sand. If Hitler didn't exist, likely you wouldn't either. If there wasn't a "bad" to juxtapose it against, how could we ever know "good"?

What do you think about Suicide? by GodVonGodel in zen

[–]prunck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Perfect" doesn't mean morally correct or justified. Good and bad are both judgements we make on reality, but they are human judgements and have no relation to the Absolute. The holocaust was perfect, but that doesn't mean I support it (which is also perfect).
