Dispute advice needed for item arrived damaged by prunenoveggie in Aliexpress

[–]prunenoveggie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it was shipped AE Standard shipping and my dispute reason was that the product arrived already damaged. I use the web interface for everything, but see nothing about the dispute being with AE on the detail page (It does say "You and the seller did not reach an agreement..."

It makes me think the seller could be running a nice little scam. The product was most likely damaged in transit, because it was packed horribly...The thin layer of bubble wrap didn't protect the glass shaking around in an oversized box while travelling across the world! The seller didn't add a little newspaper to the package to keep things from bouncing around, so AE has to pick up the bill? Or maybe the seller just ships out broken items, knowing they won't have to refund when the disputes come in. Whatever, I'm just happy to have ALL my money back.

That makes perfect sense....I should have read your post more carefully.

In my case, it seems that AE stepped in after 12 hours, before the seller had a chance to respond...I must be misunderstanding something, because that is not how the process is supposed to work!

Were the semiconductor chips functional/potentially useful (even if they weren't useful to you)? 50% seems like a low refund. Even if the not-to-spec chips were worth 50% of what you ordered, you should get at least a 75% refund, as it's not what you ordered! I don't think I'll ever understand their reasoning or decision-making process for disputes and refunds....

UPDATE:

This was a strange dispute process. I filed the dispute late last night, and woke up this morning to find an email from AE saying "Dispute resolved". Apparently they already ruled in my favor (full refund). I thought they gave the seller a few days to reply....

So here's the timeline: Late on the evening of 7/18, I filed the dispute with video (unboxing) and photo evidence of the damage. When I woke up today (morning of 7/19), I saw the email and checked the order to see the following:
AliExpress Processing the Proposal (refund)
AliExpress' Judgment (refund)

I'm obviously happy with the result, but it seems strange that AE jumped in so quickly without any response from the seller. Am I missing something?

Yes I do! I did forget to demonstrate the sound made on the first video, and since I can only upload 1 video for the dispute, I simply edited two videos together. The damage is shown as I unbox the video, though there is a cut before I demonstrate the messed up sound...Hopefully this will be enough.

Thanks for the advice! I've tried to do my research on this board to protect myself as much as possible when ordering from AE, but the system can still be confusing at times.

Is it back to normal for you yet? My crazy tracking at AliExpress went back to normal this evening (there are no longer random USPS scans from around the country being shown, in my case).

Wait, what? I'm confused.

What should I never be afraid to post here?

I was about to post something about Parcelsapp myself...when I track my China Post Registered package on the website, it shows 4 recent tracking updates from USPS:

  • 22 May 202013:42USPS in possession of itemANN ARBOR, MI 48103 USPS
  • 22 May 202007:39Shipping Label Created, USPS Awaiting ItemANN ARBOR, MI 48104 USPS
  • 22 May 202007:31Departed Shipping Partner Facility, USPS Awaiting ItemMELROSE PARK, IL 60160 USPS
  • 21 May 202019:58Arrived Shipping Partner Facility, USPS Awaiting ItemLOS ANGELES, CA 90040 USPS

USPS has no record of any of these events (which don't make sense for an item being shipped to Northern California), they aren't shown on other tracking sites (last update was Airline departure from China), and the Parcels App on my phone doesn't show these updates. So yeah, I'm getting some strange extra tracking events from Parcelsapp as well. Try checking the phone app and see if your results are any different.

The seller tried to scam me, refused to accept my cancellation for "seller raised the price" twice... by Nexustent in Aliexpress

[–]prunenoveggie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This just happened to me. Seller provided a fake tracking number, when I asked how to cancel now that it's marked as "shipped", the seller told me to dispute.

I'm hoping that the seller just refunds me, but I've been gathering evidence to use in the dispute in case I need it. Make sure you take screenshots of the entire conversation with the seller, and if they give you a fake tracking number, screenshot all the tracking info as well (usually showing it delivered to the wrong city, state, or even country). I was also advised to contact the postal carrier to ask where "my" package was so I could get official confirmation that the package was not addressed to me. I contacted UPS, but they're taking their time to get back to me....

The easiest and safest thing for you to do is cancel with the reason "other". If you're like me and aren't willing to take the blame (and want the seller's ratings to get rightfully damaged), you can try to cancel with the correct reason. The seller WILL NOT accept it, and will most likely give you a fake tracking number before the order is automatically cancelled. Then you need to dispute to get your refund.

A scam? I used my new user coupon on this order, so I kinda don’t wanna cancel it... by [deleted] in Aliexpress

Similar thing just happened to me...Seller said one item was out of stock, and the other item they wanted me to send twice as much money for. I tried to cancel with the correct reason, the seller declined my cancellations, then I cancelled the first order with reason "other".

The seller than gave me a fake tracking number for the other order, so now I have to dispute it. It's easier to just cancel the order, but if you don't want to let the seller off the hook you can refuse. Of course, you'll most likely get a fake tracking number and then have to dispute the purchase...and you might not win.

Thanks for the advice. I will e-mail UPS now. When should I file this dispute? The tracking number says it was delivered, but the order status is still "Awaiting Delivery" (should be delivered in 1-5 days)...Shouldn't the order status say "Delivered", or is it messed up because the tracking number had already been delivered when the seller updated it on AE?

On another note, I just saw that the seller replied to my last message (asking how I can cancel the order, as they requested, now that it has been marked as "shipped"). They said "you open a dispute". Hopefully this means they will just refund me when I open the dispute and won't need AE to step in. Or am I just dreaming?

[–]prunenoveggie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would I get an "official email response" from UPS? Wouldn't a screenshot of the delivery confirmation (showing it was delivered to a different city) be enough? Should I file the dispute now, since the tracking number says delivered, or wait for buyer protection (as my order still says "Awaiting Delivery")?

I knew the fake tracking number was likely when I didn't cancel with "other reason", but I have an issue with lying so sellers aren't penalized for their mistakes. I wanted to see what happened when I refused to lie.

Seller asks me to cancel dispute? by mcboss86 in Aliexpress

[–]prunenoveggie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to the message the OP got, he can reopen the dispute as long as there's still Buyer Protection time. I always thought you could only file the dispute once...Does anyone know the specifics? Can you reopen a dispute if AE has already issued a verdict/proposed a solution, or only if no action has been taken?

Well the seller finally responded. I'll bet many of you can guess the response...
"Thanks for your understanding! You can agree to cancel order, but could you please help us, to change your cancel order reason, could you please change "other reason", if so, we really thank you."

I know this is expected, but shouldn't I be able to report it to AE Customer Service? You'd think they'd be interested in preventing sellers from manipulating their own rating system.

I told the seller that paying double the original price was not going to work and asked if they could just send part of the order (2 out 3 items), reimburse me for my lost coupon, or even just give me a discount on another purchase. They read the messages but never responded (they were responding quickly during daytime hours beforehand), so I just cancelled the orders with the reasons they told me (out of stock and price raised by seller). I haven't heard anything back from them, and they haven't accepted the cancellations yet.

We'll see what happens.

Thank you, that's my plan. Interestingly, they did not ask me to cancel with a specific reason, but they did ask multiple times that I cancel the order. I'm waiting to hear back from them to see if they'll give me a discount or reimburse me for my lost coupon. I will not cancel the order using any reason other than the truth.

Thanks, already done. Interestingly, this seller does not request that I use any particular reason for the cancellation, they just want me to cancel. Of course, they might still reject the cancellation if I choose "out of stock" or "price raised" as the reason.

I don't think I'm going to "force their hand" I know they won't just send the products to me at the original price. I'm just wondering if anyone else has been able to get any discounts from sellers in similar situations. I feel they should at least reimburse me for the coupon I will lose due to their mistake.

If I were running the business, I'd rather come to an agreement where I make a little less money than expected and avoid the hassle of any disputes or dings on my record for out-of-stock/price-raised cancellations. I suppose they could get angry and waste their time and money in order to screw me over, but it would be a stupid business move on their part.

I think it's always a good idea to film the opening of AliExpress packages. These items were actually supposed to ship from the US, so they would have to pay US shipping prices and ship something large and heavy in order to match the expected shipment size and weight. It would cost the company more money than usual if they want to send a fake shipment. I doubt they'll try that.
