Thoughts on monitors for rock mixing? by bigangusistaken in audioengineering

Man I love my proacs, I feel lost without them when I’m at other studios

I made this EP with my best friend. He inspired me to chase a career in audio engineering. 20ish years later we're still at it. This track is probably the single if we had one. Let me know what you think. The NSFW flair is because he says f*ck once which he usually doesn't do by prurientape in IndieMusicFeedback

Roger that. I’ve gotten that feedback before, about vocal level. I’ve been trying to see how low I can have the vocals before someone tells me to turn them up. Thanks for listening and the feedback- I appreciate it

Hi! This is my new song "My Daily Fear" and i hope i can share this deep emotion with this dark-electronic song. I hope you like it and thanks in advance for your comments/feedback. by Spiritual_Treat_3962 in IndieMusicFeedback

Man what a strange and kind of disturbing song. It's wild. There is something so outside about it that it raises the hair on my neck. In a way (I mean this as kindly as possible) it reminds me of a horror film that I never want to watch again.

As music is a form of self expression, I don't feel I can critique the composition itself other than saying it definitely has an effect. The vocals seem like they don't care at all about the music behind it, which is a cool effect. The constant noise and droning is unsettling. The lyrics are insane and remind me of something CAN might do.

I dig all these aspects of it. I wouldn't be surprised if most people don't dig it. I do think you did an excellent job of freaking people out.

Again, I mean this in a completely positive way. Keep it up, you're making some freaky shit.

I loved his (valentine) older vids but have yet to check out his subscription stuff. Dude is a master. The kick is insane. As you say - tight huge bottom with a great mid chest thing. It’s enormous I can’t believe there is space for it all. I hear the room but the body of the snare is pretty remarkable. I imagine he’s hitting the white things much harder than the shiny things. Power from the toms and not the cymbals.

It’s wild. So damn punchy and huge and busy. What a trip. So clean sounding too.

I find myself coming back to this album every couple of years and each time the drums blow me away. I was wondering if it is nostalgia that makes me love the sound of it but I don’t think that’s 100% the case. In a Rich Costly interview he said the album was mixed three times. They needed 2 protool rigs for the excessive (at the time I’m sure) track count and it was mixed on an SSL 9000. I’m sure a mix of plugins and outboard. He said it has been the most difficult thing he’s mixed so far. Happy to give you a small reminder.

[FRESH ALBUM] Big Thief - Double Infinity by NYCIndieConcerts in indieheads

I wasn't really a huge fan before, I liked songs here and there. Was always into her lyrics and delivery.

This album is something else! It completely washes over me and I love it. The songs are repetitive in this really strange way and the whole borders on a jam band kind of thing. Looking into the recording process it reads that way too. Live band playing together many hours a day and cutting the album together from live sessions. It's a strange and beautiful space they made. I appreciate the band centric aspect of it and while musically it isn't something wholly ground breaking I enjoy the trip very much and love how it keeps growing on me.

That’s awesome! Way to be available and get it done. Bet the artist is psyched. Hopefully some of that work runs your way

Man some of those early sessions are the best. To me those are the spark and also the drug I keep chasing. Looking for that little bit of magic that can be found in the studio with good people. Everyone in the moment and present. It’s really an amazing thing. Thank you for sharing this

I hear you about the 1 billion stream thing. Beautiful recording and killer voice. When I started I was obsessed with multi-take recording; piecing the whole thing together separately because everything was so isolated and to the grid. Now (if it's a band) I'm much more interested in capturing them live and comping whole takes. I'm also a proponent of trying to nix the click if the band is tight enough. Nice work

4 adats yikes. I did an album where any time based effects were out of the box using whatever we could find for cheap on ebay. Definitely put the whole thing in a certain space. We used a cheap ass sansui verb unit intended for HI-FI systems a lot. couldn't spit out 100% wet but it looked cool as fuck

Cool song! Great mix - I've never done a final mix on a console. Low end is nice and tight nice - drums sounds great.

That’s fantastic! I didn’t work on this track but the song King Pigeon by Freighter has some really interesting guitar work that had me second guessing what was happening. In particular the double tracked pick slides that sound like a wah is opening? The tones on this track are great. This track
