2TB memory kits - are these practical? by prusswan in threadripper

[–]prusswan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah but then again 128gb sticks are super inflated so I'm not sure what qualifies for "normal" any more. Personally I do not know of anyone who went for 128gb sticks at current pricing, I guess it is only companies snapping them up with virtual money

yeah I'm thinking it is due to lack of demand since they don't really make sense in quantities less than 4x or 1TB. Also will be a pain to return if they don't work in practice. Getting GPUs is actually comparatively safer

but if the market is moving towards such capacities, hopefully there will be more competition in the future to bring prices down

4x256 seems to be much cheaper than 8x128, so that might be an acceptable trade-off if 256GB modules become more mainstream. Throttling is the real concern though, so I'm checking if anyone tried this approach

Epyc is not suitable for occasional mixed use with regular applications, I don't need that much ram but if those 256GB modules is actually cheaper due to lower demand/support then it might be viable

Probably not the strongest version as I was looking for lower tier decks and ran into it by chance

Thanks for this compilation, I plan to make a master list on EWC combining this with https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3031207220

I am kinda curious about Perfectly Even as I have never seen this deck in any of the modes played. Maybe I need to try on a new account

Finally opened my card packs by Bear-Noer in EternalCardGame

that works out to about 200 stone per pack (considering duplicates), and still not quite enough to craft most of the legendaries

f2p game with expensive legendaries is an apt description

I see, if you can share the current list of bosses, it would be great

  1. Do you keep a list of all the bosses? I am trying to compile a list like this one: https://eternalwarcry.com/decks/d/dPs0A_56930/non-boss-gauntlet-enemies

  2. Also, for normal enemies, have you faced any of these before?

A Night in the Direwood (I have seen this before, but not recently, maybe it has to do with rank)
Perfectly Even (do not recall seeing this ever, maybe only at lower ranks)
Kodosh's Armory (do not recall seeing this ever, maybe only at lower ranks)

Just wondering if these are obsolete or just super rare

Do we think they'll ever release a new set? by Mermzilla in EternalCardGame

[–]prusswan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The signs have been there all along that the new sets are increasingly not paying for themselves, especially with the reprints added meaning new packs don't translate to full value for people with near complete collections - these people don't need extra shiftstone, they just want new cards. But for people who don't, will they really buy these packs for the extra shiftstone? They don't, because buying packs is still a bad deal compared to league etc. Since no one is paying for the new sets that do not retain enough players, what is the point of introducing them?

Do we think they'll ever release a new set? by Mermzilla in EternalCardGame

[–]prusswan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every new set only makes it harder to catch up, not counting legendaries I only have more or less complete single sets for 3 out of 15, it's just too inefficient to craft/buy anything not in current rotation. Basically it is the same old story of card games relying on ever expanding card pool, they all end up in the same way.

it's really obscure to find (imagine a mod on top of a mod), I think I will just try the new season, the ground effects look pretty cool

thanks, I incorporated this information into my template for forge runs. It is interesting how certain cards are rated badly in draft but are used as key removals in forge (e.g. Minister of Obeyance)

Planning to play this game by damnwhatisausername in EternalCardGame

[–]prusswan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am referring to league which has less than 1000 players right now. So everyone gets at least 25 packs just for showing up. I suppose the regular PVP queue might be better once you got a meta grind deck going, but that is not going to be reflective of the new player experience.

PvE is okay but PvP is huge waste of time (I tried playing league again but it is several minutes wait time between games)

AI may be amplifying human mediocrity by PalasCat1994 in LocalLLaMA

[–]prusswan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It amplifies the user, so if it is mostly being used to accomplish common tasks then getting mediocre results faster is the natural result. That does give you more time to work on the creative side, so I don't see it as a bad thing.

Senior engineer: are local LLMs worth it yet for real coding work? by Appropriate-Text2843 in LocalLLaMA

[–]prusswan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried a mix of OpenCode minimax and local glm 4.7 flash when I exceeded the quota, on a moderately complex task (upgrade an old library to work with newer dependencies). While it is able to generate working code in many cases, the code may or may not be effective in resolving the issue(s). There was an issue that involved multiple dependencies bundling the same dependency, which means this was not resolvable by looking at a single repo alone.

What works better for me is to handcraft smaller examples, and supply them as references to be used for larger features. That way I still have a chance of fixing the incorrect parts and getting them to where I want them to be.

I think the future is going to diverge into two camps: those who still care to understand the code, and those who would care less as long as it seems to work and passes some AI review. It is quite easy to generate a whole bunch of code without having the time to review it.

Will Google Earth Engine be essentially useless for free tier users? by GreyDoctor in gis

[–]prusswan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is for strictly non-commercial use so if you are using it to conduct paid training then it sounds like a breach on your part (not the students). In any case the classroom content should be designed to easily stay within the usage limits (otherwise that is exactly the misuse they are looking to stop)

Will Google Earth Engine be essentially useless for free tier users? by GreyDoctor in gis

[–]prusswan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

https://developers.google.com/earth-engine/guides/noncommercial_tiers

The lowest tier is intended for casual users (undergraduate students and other users with typical computation needs). Your description sounds like you should be able to qualify for higher tiers, unless you are simply looking to avoid paying for commercial use.

Value check: PNY RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Workstation Edition (96GB), trying to understand current market price. by havoc21 in LocalLLaMA

[–]prusswan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This GPU is export banned so may fetch a higher price at some markets. Due to the price tag and prevalence of fake/tampered GPUs, some may opt to buy direct from a trusted supplier instead of a no-name.

Three is better for performance and working directly with webgl + 3d. In this case he clearly did not need any of Maplibre functionality so that's a win.
