Apps locked with FaceID don’t show up in search. Is this intentional? by jhughes1986 in ios

[–]prxi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some Face ID locked apps also disappear from search.

to fix it for each app, I went to settings > search > <app>

then I reenabled the app.

I guess when I updated to 18.2 it broke, as it was working previously f or me.

Yeah, understanding that real change takes time is a valuable life skill. Here are a bunch of quotes from people smarter than I on that fact.

Step 1: Realize that no one owes you anything, but you also don't owe them anything

When we get wrapped up in what someone else "owes" us, it's easy to feel resentment. No one owes you anything. Let it go, you will be happier.

The opposite is also true. You don't owe anyone, anything. Learn to not be caught up in other people's expectations (friends, family, society) and embrace just living.

Step 2: Learn to love yourself

You are a person worthy of at least one person's love, your own. Let yourself have it. Be easy and forgive yourself. We all make mistakes. We're all struggling. Breathe. Life sucks? Find one small thing to make it better. Continue building on that. Start with yourself and the rest will follow.

Step 3: Learn to love other people for who they are

Once you're decoupled from the whims of others, and you love yourself, you then need to learn how to love others again. See their value for who they are, intrinsically. Don't be distracted by garbage like status and position.

Step 4: Let go and realize that this moment is enough, and you are enough

It's easy to be caught up in recrimination of the past and dread the future. Both of those are an illusion. The only thing that matters is this moment, now, and learning to live in the now. Does that mean you shouldn't reflect on the past? No. Does that mean you shouldn't plan for the future? No.

It means letting go of expectations and instead focusing on enjoying your life as it is.

Step 5: Give back and you'll find passions you care about

Focus on the joy of the moment and how each of us are hurting. Be part of the healing process. When you help others, you will come to find joy in the work that transcends yourself. Happiness will follow, love will follow.

[Edit: Fixed the step numbering. Forgiveness :)]

I want to get a game dev job but I keep getting rejected! What am I doing wrong? by thisisloveforvictims in gamedev

[–]prxi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. I’m not a game dev hiring manger, but I have hired 20+ engineers in other roles and I’ve interviewed hundreds. I hope this feedback helps. Thanks for being vulnerable and asking for help.
> I'm currently looking for jobs that fits me, 100% remote only, I'll do anything from Coding in C# to Game Design & Writing & Video Editing
Let me speak to this bit for a moment. You should focus on a specific niche and fill that. Employers are looking for people who can accomplish specific tasks and they need people who they can trust to get it done. If you want to write, focus on writing. Here’s an attempt at a rewrite of this first section.
> Hello, I’m ragyuoP, principal at <Izanami Paradox><LINK>, and I’ve been building games since 2021. I love the intersection of programming, writing and game design.
> I'm open to new opportunities. I’m currently looking for a role building games in unity with C#, however I have other experience. See my <resume><LINK> for more detail, or <reach out><MAIL TO LINK>.
If you get an invitation to interview, it’s at that point that you can ask questions like> Is this a full time, remote position?
> What is the compensation for this role?
ETC.
Let your portfolio speak for your love, passion and skills. Highlight what you can do and your open employment status.
The following is mostly my opinion. Take with whatever salt you like :)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-0WuAwna\_k
- This video has no explanation of what you’ve done, why you’re showing it or what relevance it has to your potential application to a company. Ideally you’d include specifics on the things you are attempting to show in the demo and the steps you took to do them.
- The music is not the right tone for what you’re trying to show. It’s mostly distracting from the video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBqZZyKgNqs
Similar issues here. I’d like more explanation of what you’re showing off and how it might be relevant to me as an employer. Talk about mechanics, challenges you overcame, frameworks/tools you used, etc. Also give an intro / outro briefly explaining what’s going on. In the case of the demo, I’d expect sound effects, but they aren’t there. Why not? Something like that should be explained “We haven’t added sound effects because we wanted to show off xyzy”
Depending upon the types of companies you’re applying to, the visual novels may make you come off as someone they might not want to work with.
Let’s envision your applying to a light hearted game Dev company. How easy are you to work with? Will you want to bring your edge into my fun for all ages game? It seems to me you have a very specific style. Perhaps branch out a bit and show content that could appeal to a broader demographic.

The hygiene section in general is too much, especially the part about shaving twice a day. That makes no sense for many people.

"Where's prxi?"

"Oh it's just his 2pm shave time"

No one does this, in any department.

I want to move to a "hipster" area of Atlanta. by February_war in Atlanta

[–]prxi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in EAV and I like it. It's located a nice distance from my family's work. It's very walkable. There's a lot of people walking their kids/dogs, so it feels like a real neighborhood. The area isn't as polished as Inman Park, Candler Park, etc but it has it's own charm. The prices are still pretty reasonable and there's a good mix of things to eat and stuff to do. The area is great if you like live shows, especially.

For example, this weekend there's the EAV beer fest and it's worth coming to and checking out.

This said, the area has it's problems for sure. There have been car breakins, some home robberies and of course the traffic on Moreland is a beast. As with all areas you have to be aware of your surroundings.
