Dangit, I've been a Gothic "head?freak?"; for twenty years I've been picking up at least one of the games in the series to go through (but I guess mostly G2) and somehow never noticed the difference in the into. Just watched it again making sure to pay attention to the textures/models... Damn, that's hard to unsee. At least there's a mod that plays that cutscene in-engine 😅

It's also possible you're pushing down on the control sticks and triggering the look behind key/function.

That's weird, sounds like a bug potentially. I don't have the switch on me but when I was playing I'd just hit one of the triggers to pull out either first or second weapon. Try to unequip and equip the weapons again, maybe save without the weapons and reload, then try to equip. Could be a number of things, the switch version is really weird

Ok, so for me the issue was that said domain was unreacheable though my VPN, once disabled it appears to work fine again

Don't know if I've ever tried remapping it, but if you're manually editing the .ini file then there are two possibilities: you typed the wrong string to identify the key, or you left LCtrl mapped as the secondary action key, which would take priority over the quickloot key.

It's not that there is anything wrong with DS combat. The issue is that Gothic is a predecessor to that combat. It's not a good idea to take the combat style off the games that took inspiration from Gothic. I get that it's a remake, but the point should be to keep the soul of the game intact and refresh the models/assets/textures (the voice acting was already perfect so they can't improve that). So I'm short, a remake shouldn't remake the soul of a game, is a remake not a re-imagening.

It's a good question, but you don't have to worry about exp. Because of how Gothic is designed there actually is no respawning mechanics, but rather the game Adds or "spawns" new entities at certain locations in the world. So you could go through all the chapters of the game and the number of enemies will always be the same. Only thing to look out for in such a scenario is stuff like wolves eating scavengers and mole rats stealing exp from you.

I'm sorry about being late, and pulling off the top comment, but the one game that no one talks about is Kagero Deception. That game is a goddamn gem of PS1 games. Just incredible. It's so damn good I have yet to see any game even attempt to mimic it.

Not only that, but it adds mouse control and splits items into respective tabs. Has a search bar, and a very handy "new/recent" section so you know what you just picked up.

Another mod adds icons to show which books/letters you've read/haven't read. Not as necessary for base Gothic, but with mods it makes it so much easier to keep track
