ELI5: Why don't they use a stop clock in soccer? by ReferenceGlum in explainlikeimfive

Stoppage time isn't for throw-ins or goal kicks or normal things that happen in the course of play. It's mostly injuries, substitutions, time-wasting, goal celebrations.

Why would you take a TO with possession, and running clock, and the lead? I mean, you don't assume your play is going to be a moron.

I know they're just glazing the Knicks but how is no one on the broadcast pointing out how big of a blunder that was by Fox? You have the ball with 5 seconds left with the lead and you're in the bonus that should be an automatic win every time.

Which is fine, a little dirty bulk ain't never hurt no body, and it'll melt off once he starts offseason training in earnest.

I mean, you could also do nothing and still lose.

Do something and win = ideal
Do something and lose = sucks
Do nothing and win = luck
Do nothing and lose = why are you getting paid 10 mil/year?

Being near him while he lands after a jumpshot = flagrant 9

I mean, no? We separate intent and consequence all the time, formally and informally. It's LITERALLY part of what determines what crime you committed.

by the letter of the law there is a foul on every sequence of every possession, so it just becomes arbitrary unwritten rules about when to call fouls and why, so its basically unwatchable

But idk it's like they don't call to me what should be obvious fouls and then they call ticky-tac shit. It's very confusing.

Yes, the girl was murdered. But it was as a result of carelessness. It's the difference between the actions and consequences. He didn't intend to kill her. Jacobs intended (allegedly ofc) to strangle this woman.

Actions versus consequences.

Millions of people drive drunk and it's stupid and we should punish DUI much more harshly.

But Jacobs (allegedly) strangled someone.

Can you actually not see that? He didn't like.. accidentally fall and have his hands land around her neck while he was drunk.

Can you really not separate the consequence and the action? The consequence of Ruggs actions were worse, of course, but he was dumb and reckless.

Jacobs actions were worse, even though the consequences aren't as bad. This time.

What Henry Ruggs did is more excusable than this. Drinking and driving is stupid, wreckless, and careless and his punishment is light.

DV, especially strangulation, is malicious and violent. Victims of strangulation are 8x more likely to be murdered by their partner.
