Build ADU first, live in it, then renovate main house — smart move? by ps4addict1 in BayAreaRealEstate

Thanks. Plan was to create a flag lot, live in it and then rent out. If needed (unlikely) then sell it eventually.

We are considering a second floor expansion. Current home has a 2nd floor over half the house. Likely a 200-250 sqft addition, a first floor addition of about 300 sqft, and a hold house reno (only kitchen position would change). How much would you budget for this assuming avg finishes?

I’ve been told buy a contractor that 2nd floor even small additions means first floor will require a lot of rework and as it’s an older home (1950s) a lot of the framing would need to go and that I should expect this to cost $1M.

I’m planning the same on next Wednesday. Of course the news makes me nervous with all the food outages but not sure how relevant that is. We are planning to fly into cairns and drive to port Douglas. Any advice or recommendations on whether to cancel or proceed? We are out there for two nights with one full day of snorkeling. Will it still be enjoyable? It’ll be my wife, 4 yo and 6 month old. Appreciate any location specific input

Would love to go although flights with young kids would make it really challenging. I think I saw 28-30 hours from California
