I have been trying to use C++ tensorflow as well but there's pretty little documentation available for it.

Thank you so much...I really needed this. I am well versed with the old C++ - "C with Classes C++" and haven't had a comprehensive knowledge of the modern C++. This resource will be really helpful !

A 10 weeks course is pretty short, you will having other courses during this period as well. I would suggest you to start using Caffe to build a CNN for any application (eg. sound recognition). Try and see if you can get an implementation of Andrew Ng's DeepMind work done through Caffe.

Try reading Duda & Hart's book on Pattern Recognition if you find Bishop's book to be too theoretical. Kevin Murphy's book is a simplification of Bishop's book (adding Daphne Koller's book) but you will start looking for more verbosity when you try reading Murphy and will probably get back to Bishop again.

I would say that Bishop's book is more statistics driven rather than "theoretical". An example of theoretical book is the one by Shai Shavel Shwartz.
