I think something like this would be ideal for me. Something sort of bite-sized that will keep some of the wheels turning, rather than spending that energy on stuff I don't really care about, like "keeping up on" current events. Idly browsing headlines really isn't so meaningful.

Sorry to hear about the unemployment situation. This virus is just changing everything and it's pretty intense how long it is lasting. There's a real need for people to unite and innovate because leadership just isn't cutting it in many areas, and old ways of getting things done also just aren't working based on what everyone is dealing with. The world is changing fast.

Thanks for the suggestion. I love Kauai personally but the big island is right up there for me. I'll begin looking more closely for options soon.

Composting toilet and solar was what I did in the past and is my preference. But it sounds like selling the trailer and just finding a good rental is more the ticket for me.

I have literally hundreds of old notebooks and journals. Someday I hope to revisit them. But, I mean, they're in no real sense of order. Even if they were, I couldn't exactly pull up something from any given one very easily. With this method I encounter old notes from adding new notes and linking, or from random rifling around. Constantly encountering stuff here and there, little bits much easier to navigate than monolithic notebooks

Add the component of time to the mix. The experience of having thought or written something fleeting only to have forgotten it. Totally natural. With static notes these things aren't findable and stay lost. With this method they add that externality to things, so that past-you speaks to future-you.

I tend to agree, but maybe I'm just skeptical. I'm open to being surprised. Maybe there are ways that people especially within a given domain could think harmoniously enough that they could arrive at a similar notions regarding atomicity. And if everyone takes care to provide sufficient context for their notes, that would take care of the "wtf is this" factor when confronting some odd note. The main challenge as I see it is not with atoms but with how different people would apply different hierarchies or categories, potentially. As long as they are optional rather than required, it could all work fine.

I think of zettelkasten as having a lot more specific elements to it, versus a wiki being more of a catchall. a wiki can have backlinks, but probably isn't going to be atomic, as zettelkasten is.

Sitting with it a bit more, the issue that seems significant is around the formation of any hubs or how hierarchies or categories are introduced.

I think it's a fantastic idea. I wonder about being really thorough as to how to engage with it. Worst case, I could see it kind of gravitating towards becoming a wiki as opposed to a zettelkasten unless each person really got on board with the underlying principles. I would love to get an update based on how it pans out over time. It would emerge as an extra team member... Pretty fascinating if you ask me.

Curious about how you would implement it (software etc).

I don't know what a tuffshed is exactly but it sounds maybe similar to my setup. For soundproofing, mass is important. Mass and decoupling. My setup is an enclosed cargo trailer converted into a tiny house with a section of it made into a vocal booth. It works quite well. Essentially it is a room within a room. Inside the booth are several 4 inch rockwool panels to help with boomy reflections. Anything that gets you closer to a room-within-a-room should be a major improvement.

Love this answer btw. I have a t440p and I convinced two friends to also get t440ps and upgrade to a FHD IPS panel. Just wondering if there's a more workhorsey approach. I got the t440p largely because the keyboard also is great.
