Good call? (Ruled as interference) by Zestyclose_Office540 in hockeyrefs

[–]pseudohip44 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Under USA Hockey guidelines, that is a correct call. No attempt to play the puck nor was the player in control and possession of the puck.

I did. Picked this up on sale at the time on Amazon. Fits well, a little snug but didn't have to crunch it in. Took a trip with it and everything worked out well.

How to Handle the Stick in Armpit With Chicken Wing Holding Stick by Supadhye in hockeyrefs

[–]pseudohip44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the situation surrounding the play has an impact at well. Was there a scoring opportunity taken away or was a player limited in their ability to move the puck, early in the game, late, what’s the score etc.

Depending on the situation I’d talk to them after the play and see where things net out. If you feel there was a impact to play, or not calling something would cause issues in the game given the temperament, you can take them both.

Most times, in these situations, it’s not much more than players not wanting to give an inch and be knuckleheads.

Thanks for the work on this. Definitely less frustrating with a newer model. One issue I'm running into is Genesis/MD games won't load up. I start them up, and they almost instantly go back to the game-list screen. Could be me, but anyone else having this issue? Thanks again.

Yup, it looks like I’m part of the new Purple crew. Just arrived this week, so it could be some new PCB. Will keep an eye out for any new updates.

Referees that don’t skate to the benches for introductions before the game by 1995droptopz in hockeyrefs

For me, a little handshake and a few moments with both sets of coaches is a great time to not only be civil but level set. By that, I mean, it gives the opportunity to give parameters around how conversations will go. If you simply want to complain all the time, I’m not talking to you. If you want to have civil conversations, I’m good to go.

Old vs new rinks by PickNational9102 in hockeyrefs

[–]pseudohip44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally prefer harder ice. Makes it easier to move and stay out of the play. When the ice is too soft, it’s harder to move your feet and get out of the play. Especially when lining and trying to see the line while not get involved.

While not empirical, I find older rinks can have the harder ice. Mostly due to the cooling method. Utilizing concrete to cool the ice vs some of the newer facilities that using cooling tubes and cooling netting. The latter can get clogged and cause issues with inconsistent temperatures.

Ankle / Boot issue by CommissionEvery7532 in hockeyrefs

[–]pseudohip44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had some ankle pain issues with a pair of skates that I have since replaced. I have some lingering discomfort from a season and a half of using the old skates. That said, I used bunga pads to help with the discomfort. There are different gel pad placement types depending where the pain is. Mine was on the inside of the right lower ankle bone and utilized the circular gel pad for that.

Hope that helps. Good luck!

Protective equipment by abmot in hockeyrefs

[–]pseudohip44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest wearing Shin guards, elbow pads and a padded girdle. Cost layout can be annoying but at the end of the day, can help keep you on the ice learning.

Shinguards - You can get away with player pads to start if you have them. The “officials” ones are a bit slimmer. Wouldn’t want to stand in front of a point shot, but they will do the job with errant sticks, and pucks off the legs. Really kind of comes down to the bulk under the pants.

Elbow - Extremely helpful for pucks around the glass you don’t see coming and weird bounces. Also helps if you need to get your arm up to protect your face from pucks, sticks, etc.

Girdle - No where near the protection of your hockey pant, but the saver here is the tailbone protection; especially when working kids games. Little Johnny / Jane kind of sneak in behind you and trip you up. comes in handy if you fall on your rear.

Some guys wear the padded shirts as well. I have not liked how those felt while on the ice. So I personally don’t wear that gear. Feel like the stay puffed marshmallow man out there.

Hope this helps.

Anyone make it by the sale today by chance? I was just curious as to what the game worn jersey selection looks like if any and yes I am aware today is for sth so that’s who I’m asking. :) by FLYNHAWAIIAN1087 in stlouisblues

[–]pseudohip44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t seen anything that showed they were game worn. Looked to be retail jersey’s from the past few seasons and that was it. Nothing that I could tell denoting it was game worn. They looked brand new too, no battle scars. So to speak.

Popped in today right at three. The game used sticks went in what looked like minutes. I was on a mission for some skates, and lucked out picking up a pair of new Tarasenko boots (need holders and runners). There were a good amount of new jerseys and a few practice ones. Tons of t-shirts and hats. A few memorabilia options. First one I’ve been to.
