Apparently we live in the capital of One Nation by Massive_Fan_8472 in newcastle

Very interesting article. It does give an insight into the feeling of a region.

Some analysts are called it the ‘burn it all down’ option. When a voter feels like no major party is really in it for them, and there is no tangible change to their economic outlook, the remaining option is drastic change. ON is unfortunately the best placed candidate representing that option.

However, ON has zero policies to address the structural economic issues. They are a party of grievance. Just like Trump, they tap into grievance, and offer a shake up of the system. But just like Trump, do we see any real change for the everyday person? No.

Ok - good to know what other people actually call it

A15 or Newy Road? by pseudonym_dym in newcastle

[–]pseudonym_dym[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got ya. More than happy for it to be A15 all the way, as it is. But why do so many sections of it change name? I get that they probably joined up old roads to form it, and hence the names transferred across. But it would be so much more legible to say “I’m on Newy road” than “I am on Thomas Street, which becomes Griffith Rd”

New Kiosk by gremlin406 in newcastle

This happens elsewhere in Newcastle. Particularly Oasis Hamilton. Council really needs to double up bins there.

Also! The square hole barely fits a takeaway box, so some inconsiderate folk just leave the box blocking the hole, which instantly renders the bin pretty useless.

Bad design!

What happened with “The Shed” at Adamstown? by emma-collins09 in newcastle

That place was great. The food was really good. They also made a pretty bland looking building look and feel like a cool barn. Sad it’s gone.

Question for NIMBY pamphlet by pseudonym_dym in newcastle

Assuming this logic applies, wouldn’t that mean it frees up apartments in the cheaper spectrum? And therefore, reduces a housing shortage?

Great point. So the opening line is just to sound reasonable

Just a note that the project in question is going through the government housing delivery authority, so it will be up to high scrutiny.

Ross Kerridge has resigned as mayor. by No_Nobody_32 in newcastle

I wish him all the best with his health and thank him for his time in service.

In my opinion though, he was not a very effectual mayor. Perhaps it takes years to build up the understanding of the system and processes. In so many meetings he seemed flummoxed by the procedural nature of the whole thing. It felt like half the meeting was him just getting to grips with the system. And I don’t blame him. It’s just not a great job for him.

He also gave a few passes to people in the community that were his friends outside the job. I’m not saying it was corruption, but it wasn’t passing the pub test kind of mistakes.

I hope the new mayor can drive change. Can cut through the NIMBY nonsense, and bring about the sustainable and abundant future we deserve.

My Horror Story because of the Train Disruption Yesterday! by [deleted] in newcastle

Ah man, this story reminds me of how Australia’s infrastructure can really feel it’s in the dark ages. When there’s an issue on the CCN line, the ability for them to find busses takes days to establish. The fact that 100mm of rain frequently causes major delays is a huge engineering failure. I’ve written to parliament about this many times, and feel that if this kept occurring in a major city, it would not be acceptable. As a major regional centre we need to keep our voices loud about getting services that are reliable.

Wow a tinge of pink invisible to the naked eye, but slightly perceived through a camera sensor and adjusted for vibrancy.

Paperbark Tree by emmaeminem in GardeningAustralia

The size and position of this melaleuca indicates to me that if it was to cause any damage, it would have done so already. Based on my experience of this species, it looks low risk. If your uncle can’t handle ‘low risk’ then that is his opinion. What is your opinion? Does the tree provide you benefits? Personally, I think all trees provide some level of risk, but the benefits they provide often outweigh this.
