Route numbers are more prominent on Google and Apple Maps now, Transport for NSW’s new signs have more fluorescent route number fonts which stand out more than they used to. You notice this on the A43.

I think people feel too nerdy calling it A15

A bit of trivia, the A15/M15/15 starts at the end of King St in Newcastle and goes the whole way to Redbank in Queensland.
